I would definately go for 64bit vista rather than 32 so you can take advantage of all the RAM...(assuming you go for the 4GB you mentioned)

Vista Business may be a better choice. They may change their minds about the networking at some point.

Do you need a expensive heatsink if they aren't going to be overclocked?

Does that £800 need to include a screen? If not you should have the budget to go i7 which seems sensible for video encoding.

What ever ram you go for you will need to check the voltage and timings. It takes 5 seconds in bios to set it up to manufactures spec.
Are you raiding those drives? or will 1 big one surfice. if you can afford it I would get a q9550 as said just get retail rather than an aftermarket cpu cooler.

personally I've had a fair few samsung dvd-rw drives fail. I would get pioneer instead.

Something like this possibly?

That will handle video editing for a while!!

The Phenom II are quite a lot better than the originals I believe, Probably best going for one of those.

Don't know about that case, but the Antec 300 is a good case(altough its a bit higher in price than it was)

I would advise NVIDIA graphics for editing. They have a bit more compatibility then ati. Also get a hard drive purely for OS and editing software and keep all the media on a seperate storage drive. Is he digitising at full res or a lower one like 15:1?

The original Phenom's get very hot because they have a high power consumption. If you're going down the AMD route, Phenom II will always be victorious!

Looks good, although you could get 4gig ram for a similar price, might be worth it?

I'd say the Coolermaster Case, cheaper and imo looks better.

This is good and on offer.

I think the 335 looks fine, shame you can use the Antec 300, because that would definatley get my recommendation. However I think the Coolermaster doesn't look that cheap(considering that it is), but the others aren't really worth the extra imo

Those Crucial SSD are supposed to be pretty bad compared to other SSD's.
I thought you weren't overlocking, but you have TRUE added?
I would change the RAM to this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-039-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=817 as it is cheaper and just as good.
You could drop in a cheaper/lower Watt PSU, but from looking there isnt a lot to offer cheaper modular PSU's.
And yeah the cases do look tacky, personally i would shop around for http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-054-LL&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=187 as they are smaller but offer fairly decent cooling and look good. OR go all out cheap for the Akasa Zen as they are cheap, but dont look that bad ultimately for a 30quid case.

Don't go near Crucial SDD's they are so slow and don't deserve to be called an SSD. Go for an OCZ Vertex or G.Skill, but most highly recommended one of the MLC Samsung SSD's (although they aren't on the site).
