My dad keeps some utter junk.

I forget why, but one time I was there, he was digging around in some storage cupboards and pulled out some old vacuum cleaner fittings. They were for a vacuum disposed of some years earlier. I laughed at him about this... and then he went and put them back! "wtf are you ever going to use that for, just throw them away?!". He just shrugged.

You'll find that mentality in a lot of older people born out of an era where it made more sense. To be fair I'm kind of like that myself but I rarely don't find a use eventually in various projects.
