I think everything you're saying is wrong. You've never bought a CD from an artist you hadn't heard of before? Really?
Not unless ive heard some of their stuff in the past, or heard good stuff about them from a friend.
Must be an age thing. I rarely have the money to potentially waste on a CD that i may not like. Prehaps when im finished being a student i'd have the money to do such things, but until then, i tend not to buy what i dont know. That applys to films as well. On the flip side, it could also be a 'job' thing, i dont earn enough to buy random CDs. There are many reasons why we both have differing opinions/actions on buying 'random' CDs.
It doesn't force anyone to do anything. If I walked into a shop and everything was lumped in together I'd go elsewhere where I could find the music I like with ease. I know what I like.
Do you not see the hypocracy there?
You've said that catagorising music wont 'rail-road' you into buying one particular genrè, and yet you now claim that you only buy what you like? Meaning that you must, asuming you dont buy random CDs based off the cover & the track listings, be going into the shop with a good idea about what you want!?
But again, this is off topic. And not what my original point was ment to be.
If you want to start an entirely new thread on the subject of catagorising music, then feel free to do so, post the link here, i'll be happy to partisipate. I often argue this point with friends, so debating it on here will be no different.
But, catagorising on such a wide scale isnt what this thread is about is it?
Its just about 'Dance' music and its sub-genrè's. And again, that was what my original, intended, point was about.
