I suppose if you wanted a true install size (independant of what's running), you could boot a Linux CD of your choice and take a peek.

How did you do that? I haven't tried Nlite though.

Not surprised at some having more than 2GB and I'm sure that there are a lot of Windows Updates uninstaller folders sitting there so use CCleaner to clear out all the uninstaller folders you don't need.

Use NLite to remove all the useless junk off XP, do the uxtheme patch, Intergrate latest updates and drivers.

After installing, use XPLite to remove trim it down more.
