Non-endorsable offence, usually ends up in a court appearance and a fine in the region of £50-£150. No idea what the maximum is but courts never seem to go anywhere near the max.

Just make sure its actually roadworthy and dont expect any money from comp insurance if anyone crashes into you, etc. A car with no mot is worthless

the way i see it is you're pretty much driving without insurance as it voids the insurance. Mine failed its mot last week but i've had to drive to the scrapyard to pick up parts or whatever, its rebooked for next week and i certainly dont drive it as much or as far as i would if it had passed.

Isn't there usually a 14 day grace period provided you have an appointment booked?

I know the op's been driving 2 weeks without one, but seems relevant all the same.

I remember Fox saying that it doesnt actually void your insurance?

it doesnt void the insurance unless the cause of the accident was a defective part that would have been picked up on an MOT i believe... ie like a blowout due to low tread depth etc.

AFAIK.

haha sorry guys, i was under the impression it did.

so if you have a crash with no mot and the cause of crash isn't anything that the car failed on then the insurance is fine?
seems a bit strange to me?

forgive me if i'm being an idiot :)

The third party aspect of the insurance is always valid - now whether they will try to dodge your part of the claim because they claim some part of the car that would fail the MOT caused the accident is another story...

They'll just payout book value on the car without an mot which is likely to be less than your excess.

lol well the insurance company told me that so blame them. I dont really agree but they do love to say things like that to customers.

Without a mot I was told its scrap value several times by insurance assesor, claims handler, etc , ie. 50 quid

I dont doubt more is arguable but it would be an argument no doubt

The insurance company can sue for you the cost of the 3rd party claim though Ive never seen that happen

Using the  smiley invalidates your insurance.

I bet the insurance companies start rubbing their hands together when they hear that you have a claim with an absent MOT. Insurance companies need no excuse to try and wiggle out of a claim.

Hence where the over exaggerated "no MOT no insurance" comes from. IMO of course. :)
