have a look on gamereplays.org/companyofheroes and watch the replays of some good people playing. There is a lot of strategy help and discussion on that site too.

I found the most important thing is to choose the right specialization. I always found myself using the armour spec but not being able to control much fuel, which kind of wasted it.

You have to pressure the resources very early on, not turtle and keep attacking until the opponent has been forced from the map.

Small tips, font lose units, make sure if you are taking more casualties than they are in a battle, retreat and save your manpower.

Capcapcap. Watch some replays as already suggested!

Trying the americans, I just cant seem to get it right.

Americans are all about flanking. expand to the fuel points and get grenades as soon as you can. German players always play defensive with mg's so you need to have lots of infantry to flank them.

If they aren't getting mg's but instead spamming infantry, you might want to just go for BARs aswell (or instead of grenades, but I wouldn't really reccomend it).

Keep retreating your infantry, you don't want to lose squads. When you get a motor pool, get an at gun not a greyhound, german armour is better and unless your dominating them, they will just bring out a stug and one up you. If it does come down to it without infantry, a greyhound an beat a stug by circling around it.

Don't get defenses as americans, not worth it at all. If your enemy is getting lots of mgs and bunkers early game and not a lot of infantry then don't get grenades but instead get a weapons support center and get a motor.

I haven't played CoH in 2 years but I hope my advice still fits in.

EDIT: Infantry doctrine sounds like the best for you, rangers with bazookas make short work of defense bunkers. Airbourne I've never liked in any game situation, but if your dominating early game and have lots of fuel, skip all research and get an early tank depot and then a wolverine.

I usualy don't pick a doctrine till I see how the enemy plays and if I'm being dominated or not.

A tip from me would be to concentrate on mobile forces that you can move about when you want, rather than expensive defenses.

Depends on the map though.

NEVER lose a squad, its much cheaper and quicker to replenish a squad than build a new one, also squads gain vet as they fight and if you lose a squad you lose all of their vet status, you need to be controlling the fuel in the early game, wehrmacht players will lock down areas with mgs in buildings so use a sniper to take these out, you want to be getting an m8 greyhound out as soon as possible, the earlier this comes the more shock factor it has on the battlefield, once your enemy fields a pak this becomes invalid so you have to use your m8 to its maximum and take most of the map while you can.

With map control you can push out heavy armours and not let your enemy get back in the game. Infantry commander is the best all around solution, defensive operations means your rifleman can place mines, use them to place these EVERYWHERE, all over the roads and on high value fuel positions, use engineers with flame-throwers to combat aggressive troop blobs, watch out for panzershreck squads, your m8 cant stand up to these so ideally you want infantry to compliment your armour.

Basically allies strength is within the first 5 mins of a match, if you control the fuel and cut him off you wont have to worry about his armour later on in the game (which is why fielding an AT gun early should only be done when you do not have control) but if you play smart early on then rush for that greyhound, use it to smash the mgs and chase down troops.

Finally remember that strategic points hold no real value early on other than to connect sectors, you want to be capping resources early on so long as they are linked to your territory.

edit: and don't watch too many replays now, the final patch comes out on Tuesday which will balance the game for the last time, tactics will no doubt change a lot once people get used to the changes so hold off on investing in too many obsolete strats.

always be aggressive, don't invest in lots of any one thing, if you find yourself waiting for something to happen than your probably losing the match.

Ife he's playing the CPU he isnt going to shock anyone with an M8, they will simply SPAM Paks and wipe out his investment so quickly:/ Stick with more inf and some 57. IMHOP only Rangers or Airbourne is valid really...AC is meh'

Don't fight fights you can't win. If you're losing, retreat and lose as a few men as possible. Never lose whole squads, it costs more to make a new squad than to reinforce and old one (and you lose veterancy).

Build your Barracks with your engineers and build a second engineer to cap. Queue up waypoints to capture by shift clicking. Try to optimize your capture order. Americans are offensive focused, you should have four squads of riflemen and flamethrower engineers, and attack from different angles at the same time to take out defended position. As Wehrmacht, you want to take a part of the map and defend it with medic bunkers, MGs, Paks, then use grenadiers and tanks to assault the enemy.

As much as people are saying dont get defenses... a cleverly placed MG nest can lock down an area for you, giving you time to push another zone. But it costs fuel as an American, so think wisely before going that route.

Im in the mood for some COH now :D

the cpu is terrible with weapon crews?? I couldn't think of a worse decision then to forgo a m8 in favour or an at gun... lol especially against the ai!

Play a map with few "choke points" - makes it easier to defend yourself while you are working out the best units to attack with!!

I found that Gilroys Harbour was an ideal setting for my early skirmishes - get to the footbridge asap and set up a couple of machine gun nests and you can be pretty sure you wont be attacked from behind!

No not in favour of an at gun, but maybe 4s bars instead of rushing to an m8. And unless thaw mystical patch has come out fixing the 3 cloaked bonus shots then an m8 can quickly become scrap metal.

your a fool to be hit more than once from a pak, first shots a given if you don't hear the distinctive sound of a pak shell being loaded, and if you don't fit armoured skirts soon as it rolls out of the depo more the fool you. unless ive missed a trick somewhere along my 300 hours of logged multi.
