some stuff is expensive others is not, you just need to clue yourself up.

i find if you want to eat healthily and cheaply, you really have to go vegetarian. people complaining about the price of salmon, etc is ridiculous, what did you expect king prawns for £1?

carrots can be had for extremely cheap, i mean like 2.5kg for £1. now with carrots you can do a lot of stuff, soup, juice, salad, sabjee (indian food), mix veg, etc.

decent meat (low fat) is expensive and so are some vegetables when out of season and some even in season so you really do need to clue yourself up.

expensive vegetables are usually cauliflour and mushrooms.

peppers, carrots, onions, tomatoes and potatoes are cheap.

i can think of some really cheap meals of the top of my head.

pasta with fresh pepper and onions, etc.

baked potato with tuna and sweetcorn, or baked beans.

soup (any kind you want).

rice and veg curry.

home made french bread style pizza (use less cheese and more sauce and toppings)

Yes, that's fine, but I said healthy and INTERESTING. I don't see a baked potato with beans as an interesting meal.

Of course I don't expect to get salmon and prawns dirt cheap. I have the money, it's not like I'm struggling to buy them, I just don't like the way supermarkets only ever have really cheap deals on the fattiest stuff. It makes people with less money less able to be healthy in my opinon.

I usually have jacket spud with cheese and beans once or twice a week. The other days I have cous cous, sometimes with a pitta. If I can be bothered, I'll make sarnies (chicken, rocket, pesto and cheese is a fav) or a greek salad.

I eat about 5 pieces of fruit at work too. It's amazing how hungry you get - some days I don't get a break till 11.20 (from a 7.30 breakfast) and then 1.30 to lunch.

how about potatoes with garlic and herbs as a side dish to some pasta? sounds as if you dont have much imagination or cant cook. i suggest you watch jamies 30 minute meals, come dine with me, and the like on tv, they give you ideas which do not need to be applied to just 1 dish but all dishes.

potato wedges, potato skins (lot of filling small amounts of cheese), baked potato with cottage cheese and herbs and spices. roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, etc.

there are literally a million different things you can do and it be cheap, healthy and interesting. the above is just using potatoes only, and i said before the amount of different things you can do with a carrot.

pasta is another cheap option, i can literally cook pasta in a million different ways too.

sauce and pasta separate or mixed.
pasta with cream cheese, roast vegetables with herbs and spices in oven and mix.
layer cooked sauce and cooked pasta in a oven dish and grate a little cheese on top and grill for a few mins.
etc, etc, you can do literally anything with pasta.

also i use a lot of different herbs and spices when im cooking, adding these in can transform a bland dish into an interesting one. also which of my dishes wasn't healthy?

Currently I'm a fan of the big & bold covent garden soups. There about £2 in the co-op jsut down the road and coupled with a 30p bread role they make for a nice lunch.

soup is actually the easiest thing to make, get a huge pot, throw in every vegetable under the sun, throw in herbs and spices and boil until the hardest vegetables have gone soft. for me the chunkier the vegetable the better. even people who hate vegetables love soup. never blend though, unless your only using 1 vegetable.

Omg, I am not complaining that I can't make interesting healthy food! FFS! I am saying that supermarkets have deals on unhealthy crap! I am not saying, "I must eat baked potatoes every night as I am poor and have no imagination!" I have the money to spend on varied, healthy and interesting foods, and do so.

I have Jamie's 30 minute meals. Have made lots from it. See the "now eating" thread. Love come dine with me (am watching it as we speak). Me and my boyfriend are two very adventurous cooks.

I am a good cook, and have just had the fish tray bake from J's 30 m meals. Tomorrow I am making mixed vegetable fritatta.

Wish I'd never bothered posting!

At least he didn't recommend you get a 'staff curry because any other curries are crap' like he does in most food threads.

Bless him.
