However, the last I knew MyMovies used a different kind of metadata format to the default movie library, but that may have changed with the later versions.

Have you tried Media Browser? It collects the meta data its self. I found it a better app than My Movies.

I'll second the above recommendation, fantastic program. Was gonna suggest it myself but you said you wanted to use the default library so I didn't bother.

The built in metadata retrieval in MB relies heavily on folder name. Your best bet is to use this, it was designed for use with MediaBrowser and allows the same level of control over the metadata as the MyMovies collection management app.

The movie folders have got to be named exactly like the the movies are listed on this website. Media Browser will get meta data for any movie if it's named right.
