Will be interesting to see what that 13mins encompasses. That's a fair amount of extra footage, and hopefully it will add some more meat to some slightly skinny bones!

(I'm a fan of the books, though The Hobbit was somewhat less readable than LOTR)

Yup, I thought these films were freaking terrible. TLOTR was good but got progressively worse with each film with the changes that PJ made to the story. It's the same problem in The Hobbit, he added all this rubbish in the 2nd one with that elf falling in love with the dwarf, and there are so many long boring chase scenes in the movies with no threat. The orcs are just pathetic, it's a joke how easy they are to kill.
