I just heard a comment on Question Time which really sums up the hypocrisy of the action in Libya.

In Iraq and Afghanistan we are fighting an insurgency, in Libya we are supporting the rebels.

The moment I heard it I said, "sounds like some ocuker"

Since when are the Taliban insurgents? I don't know why it seems so hard for some people to grasp, they need to be destroyed as far as im concerned  and if you have to ask why, then well... I don't think you're fit to be arguing the point.

another day another arknor libya rant

another day another troll reporting to mods, if you dont have anything to say on the topics subject dont post its simple

The British, American and French leaders warned it would be an "unconscionable betrayal" were Nato to cut and run with the dictator still in power.

Gaddafi must "go and go for good" before rebuilding of the country could begin, they said - dismissing calls for an immediate ceasefire.
no it would not because if you bother to read the resolution you wanted to make the war legal unlike your last few wars you would realise it does not call for gaddafi to go.

if you cared about civilians you would make that ceasefire happen instead of encouraging the fighting to continue which is against everything the UN resolution is about

Third time - morals.

Call Hague and ask for more specifics.

Its not morals it just dpeends whether we like who they are fighting or not.

Go back to soviet era afganistan? we certainly helped the insurgents there. Not for moral reasoning but because we were repulsed by the thought of the growth of the communist machine...

no trolling intended - mearly that you are so supercritical of our libya involvement to the point that no one wants to argue with you about it
anyway this is in GD - if you want a seroius discussion that what Speakers Corner is for

yes its going to end in a mess, and no one knows how long its going to take,
but if we hadnt have got involved a very very terrible thing would have happened on our doorstep and we would have just watched on tv which would have been criminal

the resolution does not call for gadaf to go - but that doesnt mean its illegal for us to want him to ?

surely its illegal for nato and the countries claiming to be carrying out the UN resolution to not actually be enforcing a no fly zone but using it as an excuse to bomb anything that moves and threatening to continue until gaddafi is gone regardless of wether the fighting stops or not.

the odds are he will still be in power after obama , cameron etc have gone.

go read some of the comments on the skynews article , the atitudes have changed and most people arent in favour of whats going on anymore compared to a few weeks ago when everyone was very pro rebel

UN resolution never said anything about a no fly zone, the resolution says that we need to protect civilians ... from anything

including rebels attacks yet they dont and the majority of stuff bombed isnt anywhere near a danger to civilians they are using it as an excuse to bomb all sorts.

soon they will run out of military targets and move on to any form of goverment building so the country can be no longer run.

gaddafis palace was a target because he was aparently using it for communications.

by that logic they could cruise missile his mobile phone as an excuse for an assasination

You seem to be struggling with this!

moral |ˈmôrəl; ˈmär-|
adjective
concerned with the principles of right and wrong behaviour[\B] and the goodness or badness of human character

As defined by 'us'. Get it?

It doesnt seem that the rebels are actually involved in much fighting - they seem to head west when an airstrike takes place until they meet oposition when they fall back east again so not much danger other than to themselves

they have only bombed military targets (certainly ones they thought were military targets anyhow)

who said they were going to bomb government buildings ? no one has and that would not be in line with the resolution

gadaffis palace was not a target - a command and control centre in the grounds was, this show us that they are being very careful to show that they could have flattened his whole compound if they chose too but are only taking out military targets

they only way they can target gaddaffi is if he happened to be at a military site or in a tank

Gaddafi's 'Massacre' Condemned By Leaders

The leaders of Britain, the US and France have jointly called on Colonel Gaddafi to go - with reports the Libyan leader's forces have killed eight people with artillery fire.

Seven others are said to have been wounded in the onslaught on the rebel-controlled eastern city of Misratah.
truly awful how could such a massacre take place

Hardly a massacre tbh....unless you would class a couple of people getting killed a massacre??...now if it was a lot more like 10+ then sure call it a massacre.

Personally i dont class anything less than 10 people being killed as a massacre.

Anyhow back OT...the only way Gaddafi is going is by a coffin...if the UK et al think that bombing his country is going to make him leave then sadly they are mistaken....this is just another Iraq/Afghanistan waiting to happen...why are we there??...for the oil again??...to protect our interests there??...or are we there to help save the people and put in a Pro-West govt;)??...hmmmm

how come anyone kill by gaddafi forces is always refered to as "people"

is it because the average person will then assume its civilians beeing killed like the propaganda tells us?

because if it were civlians they surely would not be refered to as people?

because they are people ? even gadaffi is a person ?

so 8 people get blown up by their own government and your reaction is rolleyes? nice

Misratah sounds like another Sarajevo

spawn - not sure if you have bothered to read this thread but the points you have rasied have been answered about 50 times each already

The allies probably kill between 3-5 men with every tank they take out! why should they care about 8 people so much id never know!

Im just bewildered as to why we are so engrossed and so active in this campaign at all.

If we wanted to do a proper job we should just have bombed gadaffi instead of doing this all by proxy.
