The problem is that we only get fed information and propaganda from biased Western government news sources about what's going on. Of course the rebels are going to claim all sorts of attrocities are being committed by Gaddafi troops. It's in their interest to do so to get the help from the West and the in West's interest to get involved on the pretext of helping civillians.

What really concerns me and has done all along is the clear aim of Britan et al to once again effect regime change, just as they did with Sadam and Irac.

Heaven knows I certainly don't like Gaddafi or what he stands for but he does still have a huge following in his own country so why is the UN taking sides? They should be suing for a cease fire from both sides instead of helping to escalate the conflict! If the whole of Libya really wanted rid of Gaddafi, they would do so.

The only half truth to come out so far is that the UN is protecting civillians of which I'm all in favour... but aren't the rebels/freedom fighters also civillians?

how are they civilians?

your forgetting the rebels had
2 military jets
alteast 1 hind gunship
tanks (some of which nato bombed by mistake)
artillery and whatever else.

civilians dont know how to use bombers , gunships and tanks its a military coup thats allowed a bunch of civilians to fight with them they are no longer civilians or freedom fighters they were pretty free to begin with take a look at the quality of life in libya compared to the rest of africa!

in reality we arent any more free than the people of libya under gaddafi

I agree but, to listen to the British government's propaganda, they're just a bunch of civillian rebels fighting for freedom from Gaddafi and his regime and Britain is simply protecting civillians.
The Libyan tribal system is at the heart of the fighting - it's far more complex than just a bunch of armed protestors fighting against a dictator but the Brits et al don't mention that!
As far as I can see, Gaddafi is doomed. The West want rid of him and by jove they will do so!

no crap the original resolution was pretty much whatever you wanted to translate it as, its almost like a chinese whisper it leaves the UN meaning one thing and then gets changed into a different resolution as it passes around the UN countries ....

Apparently so. Maybe the Muslims just dont like being ruled by anyone who is distinctly NOT muslim,

Nigeria election: Thousand flee after riots

Thousands of people have fled their homes in northern Nigeria after riots prompted by the election of incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

"In the last 24 hours, there has been a spate of violence in the country: this has included the burning of churches and is a sad, unfortunate and totally unwarranted development," he said in a statement.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-13126971

By guess who? The muslims. Not the same muslims who have risen to arms in Libya, but muslims non the less...It seems that unless they control the country they inhabit, then they will stop at nothing to ruin the country and bring it under the control of fellow muslims.

Oddly enough im sure that i have stated this point many times over, and that is why muslims are unable to integrate successfully without annihialating the existing non muslim power structures...

They are just there to advise on military organisational structures, communications and logistics, including how best to distribute humanitarian aid and deliver medical assistance. I wonder if they will be providing a little more than the above?

Such as? What, do you really think a hand full of officers are going to be undertaking offensive ground operations or something? :p

The state only feeds me the same as what it feeds you, news media. So the answer is, no I don't take on board this info as fact.

But you were alluding to a higher qualification level of knowledge I thought?

My line of questioning was in reference to secret and confidential information. So if you get the same information as everyone else your position as a member of the armed forces doesn't actually trump anything, does it?

No, you are correct in that pretty much all armed forces personnel (who have work related to current ops) will receive updates and briefings on the current situation. This information is likely to be relayed directly from theatre and not produced by the state as you so put, i.e. a govt spokesman/news reporter/correspondent who will put a desired spin/angle on the situation.

Yup some military units defected and helped out the Rebels - tis hardly a well equipped force though. The best equipped units are directly led by Gaddafi's sons and have remained loyal.

Erm no - this started out as civilian protests
(just like in the neighboring countries) which members of the military later joined. Just read some of the accounts of how they gained control of Brega.

Comparing Libya to the rest of Africa is a bit silly - it should really be compared to other north African or Arab countries. It doesn't compare well to the likes of Morocco, or Egypt etc... Also simply having some oil wealth doesn't make them 'free'.

in reality we arent any more free than the people of libya under gaddafi

I don't recall the met shooting student tuition fee protesters in the street?

lol she took gaddafis "were going to search every home and find people in their closests" literally...

did he say it in english or was it a translation? because i dont think what he means is anything different to the 'door to door' fighting you get in every other urban war..
we did it in iraq you saw the soldiers busting into peoples houses while the civilians all cowered from foreign soldiers, it was on our news stations.

now if gaddafi does the same thing they think hes some kind of bed intruder climbing in their windows snatching people up

no but you did get the police trapping protestors and stopping them from leaving for hours during one protest in london, people werent even alowed to go to the toilet

Seen the news earlier today about the government sending British officers to train the rebels.
Should keep our noses out and stop interfering, same with the Usa and France.
We are hated in the middle east and tbh i cant blame them.
When they stop fighting each other they will continue to hate the west which is why i think it is stupid to supply them arms.
