Blah blah social games blah blah browser based, sure they are insanely popular and bring in a lot of profit, great if you're an industry guy, but people you consider as "gamers" don't give a damn.

Well it wasn't about browser based or social games, and a lot of "gamers" are more casual than they will ever likely admit. But I do agree that for a certain kind of person Farmville and whatnot have no appeal.

An interesting piece.

I agree with it fully and it has been predicted for a long time that multiple console platforms would not exist for much longer and maybe the prediction of 2 console generations is probably correct.

Cloud gaming is more and more of a possibility, especially with the number of TV's including network adapters.

I agree that MS/Sony/Nintendo will become content providers, not manufacturers. They wont like it as it means they will loose LOTS AND LOTS of revenue from their monopolistic publishing agreements.

The industry as a whole will be better off for it without those greedy tikes taking their cut.

Yes... the kind of person who actually buys games. Doesn't matter what platform you play on, if you actually buy games for it you don't waste your time on Farmville.

It's a good parallel, especially with MS/Sony/Nintendo making gimmicky motion controllers, but if my gaming experience becomes constrained to the power of a smart phone, I might just cry. Sure, mobile platforms have come a long way, but the massive OC'd SLI/CF setups of PC gamers aren't just here to save on heating bills.

seems like a good step forward as all games will be become one platform so no more poorly optmised games no limitations due to graphics as it will all be powered through high power systems over the internet imaging playing crysis 1 at full 1080 on a screen with nothing other than an internet connection all a long way off but could be promising
