Hi all, I have an error and resulting crashes with a recent update of Windows. It will not roll back fyi as the updates remain behind .. It seems there are 2 update xml files in the Winsxs folder that need to be deleted. Now, try as I might I cannot delete or change the names of these files .. elevated admin access, safe mode, etc etc .. I cannot run sfc as it says there is a pending update .. have tried deleting via cmd prompt but as it has trusted installer rights it errors due to access permission .. any hints would be much appreciated

I'd download a "live" Linux boot iso (I believe the standard Ubuntu iso has an option to just boot in to it as opposed to installing), and delete from there. It'll be completely cold so you'll be able to abuse the files any way you wish.

Either that, or the same thing but with windows RE (may have a different name nowadays), pick cmd upon boot in to it, and rename/delete from there. Like a Linux instance, it shouldn't be fussed about permissions or updates from there.
