Delhi to Mumbai in April. What to see/do?

If you can try and go see this Chand Baori then I highly recommend it.

In Delhi you might as well hit up Khan Market during the evening for some food and drinks. Also buy a metro pass it's like £2 for a 3 day tourist pass.
The Metro is amazing, it's so clean and efficient (just don't go on the first carriage as that's women only).

Truthfully there isn't much to do in Delhi - I would just chill out and go round.
You will be able to find decent restaurants in most places there - just don't eat anywhere.

I've been twice in recent years and haven't had Delhi belly, just drink bottled water and just make sure the restaurant is decent.
Which hotel are you staying at in Delhi?

Travelling by train is tiring. You will need a day to recover. Don't forget, these are vast distances. I would prefer the plane.
Oh, as you seem to be travelling extensively, I would consider taking travel insurance...and make it a good premium.

21st - Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, don't leave for the day. Drink overpriced G&Ts and relax. Pretend I'm a Raj.

We snook into here and pretended we were guests, made it to the pool area and was kicked out about 10 minutes afterwards. :p

£5.50 for a half of Kingfisher. :(

Mumbai is fantastic, we stayed there for 5 weeks (on "work") plenty to keep us entertained, albeit we were a group of 30 people from around the world aged between 18-25, definitely have a chill day in Goa, as well although the party season may have just ended.

April is going to be way too hot. November to February is best time to go.

I went in April and I found the weather to be tolerable. The humidity is low and the heat high, unlike the hideous summers that we have to put up with here.

I ran the usual taxi tour of all the sights such as the Red Fort, India Gate, Qutb Minar etc but the driver did tend to stop at various emporiums as he had commission with them. Be prepared to be harassed by beggars, tat sellers and snake charmers etc at every stop! I'm not much of a sightseer and found the whole experience to be very tiring but there you are.

You need at least 2 days in Jaipur. It's a beautiful city with some great sites. Mumbai is a hole and you shouldn't spend 5 days there!

We did a similar trip a couple years back. Off the top of my head the itinerary was as follows....

Delhi - 3 nights
Agra/Taj Mahal - 1 day
Jaipur - 3 nights
Udaipur - 3 nights
Mumbai - 1 night
Goa - 5 nights

We had private tours booked in Delhi who took us around all of the main sights in Delhi, took us into the temples and around them, took us to a Sikh temple where we went into the kitchen and made food with the locals and then ate with them.

Our other tour was a driver and guide booked who drove us from Delhi to Agra, did the full tour of Taj Mahal and Agra Fort and then drove us on to Jaipur that evening (long day but worth it).

In Jaipur we visited one of the elephant camps which was a great day out. Thoroughly enjoyed it and saw some of the other sites ourselves.

We got a train from Jaipur to Udaipur which was an experience and we nearly missed our train. Trains for the most part are OK just make sure you have some bog roll.

Udaipur was more of a chill out spot for us, we had some fantastic accomodation on the banks of the lake in kind of huts (all the mod cons still). We just chilled out mostly and dined at the restaurant which is on the palace in the middle of the lake as it was my birthday.

We got a flight from Udaipur to Mumbai and literally had one night there (wish we had planned for more) as we were getting an onward flight to Goa the next day but we stayed at the Vivanta by Taj in Mumbai which was a fantastic hotel. Its right on the southern most tip of Mumbai so took us an age to get there after our flight landed but we got a free upgrade to a suite room on arrival so the wait was work it in some respect!

Then we had our final 5 days chilling out in Goa. We stayed in Colvale which is great if you want to be completely removed from absolutely everything but not good if you want to be able to go out for a walk at night to some bars/restaurants. It ended up costing us 1500 rupees for a driver each night to take us places which isnt a great deal admittedly but still something to factor in.

The Chand Baori looks cool. I'm unsure how I'm getting from Agra to Jaipur, hoping to organise a taxi so I can stop off at one or two places en route.
I've got an evening food tour booked for the 9th (day after I arrive) which should give me a good tour of old Delhi and some nice food.

I'm staying in Clardiges in Delhi, which I imagine will be nice!

I spent 6 months in South East Asia a year ago, and didn't get that sick very often. Avoid raw vegetables and only drink bottled tap water seems like sensible advice I stuck with over there!

We ate here in New Delhi. Expensive in local terms, and seemed to be in an interesting area but one of the best meals we had during our three weeks in the country.

We got the train from Agra to Jaipur and it's definitely a good option. AC First Class, good carriage, decent meal thrown in and jumped in a taxi at the station. Jaipur was incredible, and really enjoyed Mumbai too.
