Hello guys i've decided to delid my cpu but not sure if it is worth it. At the moment I've i7 4790k running stock clocks. Temps under h100i with balanced profile are in low to mid 70s when running OCCT linpack with avx instruction for 40 minutes.

Im no sure if it is worth deliding it if I were to use normal non conductive paste? Im concerned with liquid metal longevity. I've heard that after 12 months it needs to be reapplied and that some cause cpu die to have a texture that needs to be sand down?

Any advise on this topic will be appreciated.

Firstly, I will say that if you're happy with temperatures, there is no need to delid :)

If you do delid, it's not really worth using conventional paste as it won't be much of an improvement over the existing setup. You would improve the mounting of the IHS on the die, but it sounds like that's OK if you're under 80°. Overclocking would obviously raise temperatures so that's one good reason to delid.

The older liquid metal such as Coollaboratory Liquid Pro has some stories but I've not heard the same about Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut. It's been around a few years and seems like the go-to liquid metal now. It can stain copper slightly but doesn't seem to impact the surface texture or anything.

If you do delid, read some guides, watch some videos, and whatever you do don't squirt liquid metal all over your motherboard :D

My experience is that traditional thermal paste has worst longevity when applying under the heat spreader. Google thermal paste pump out and you will see plenty of examples of temps rising after a week/2 weeks with nomal thermal paste.

I delidded my 4770k and lowered temps by at least 15degrees, if you are now looking to overclock I would delid it.
