I did it after school years ago, but this was in Holland so probably not much help. The job was awesome. The pizza pizza joint had their own scooters and insurance. They paid us €4.50 an hour and the tips were ours. It was extremely competitive amongst us as we knew when we were likely to get tips. We'd stack 4-5 orders in a scooter top box and thrash those little bikes like they've never been ridden before. Pizzas always had to arrive hot and in good nick as most people checked them before paying. On the way back to the pizza joint we'd go past all the areas where our mates were known to hang out, have a chat and a smoke and head off again.
Summer was always a bit crap for tips but the socials aspect was great as everyone was always outside. Winter was crap for the social aspect but we would occasionally hit €100 a night in tips on a good night. Most nights it was around €40-€70. We only paid tax on our hourly wages so we made a killing. That kind of money, when you're 16/17 with no bills to pay was crazy back then. We're talking 15 years ago though.
Adding a little extra shiver to emphasise how cold it was whilst standing at the door helped a lot. That said, riding an underpowered, restricted, top heavy 50cc moped with no fairing on frozen roads at temps as low as -14 is no joke. Faceplanting was a regular occurrence.
