Dell 1525 laptop not charging

Need a little help before a start buying things...a dell 1525 works fine with power supply in...but does not charge....says in the icon plugged in but not charging...i also get a screen that pops up saying incorrect power supply although itst he original dell one that came with it....anyone else had this problem before.

Could be a simple fix, but last time this happened with someone I knew, it was a new motherboard.

ahhhh thats what i was worrying about...ive googled it and there are a load of different reasons....usually even if its a battery ive not known it to say not charging...

I assume it powers fine through the jack though?

You could end up spending £££ chasing your tail on this

If it is not picking up your power supply type in the bios then it could be anything from your power supply to damaged components on the motherboard, I would try and PSU first but make sure its original Dell and not a copy.

We have the same problem with my wife's Dell. We tried a friends power supply and that worked fine. I then bough a replacement and it does the same as you described. I then borrowed one from another friend and that worked again. So I have no idea why this is happening and don't really want to buy another replacement just in case that one does not work either.

got two 1525s here, been faultless in the 5 years i've had them. Use the battery calibration tool in the BIOS to diagnose the fault.

battery calibration tool...ive seen battery info ill have a look again see if i can find that thanks.

oh well it turned out to be the charger....although it works with power supply in it doesnt charge battery....so new charger works fine again .

Might be the charger, had a few that stopped charging because of the power adapter
