I've cut the ideal 22" panels out because of the stories i've heard about the cheaper panels on them.

I know the dells are cracking units but can't work out wether i really need to break the bank for a 24" screen or be sensible and go for a 20" screen?

I can see me playing my 360 on this screen in the future to leave the lounge free for TV etc. but for the moment it's just used for a little gaming, odd movies, browsing, music etc etc.

would 20" be enough?

Someone posted the screen size of the 20" panel the other night for me, any 24" owners want to do the same please?

thanks

to tempt you, a Dell 2405FPW next to the Dell 2005FPW (24" vs 20"). My advice would be that if you can stretch to get the bigger screen, you should do so. I think you'll be grateful in the long run that you did, especially with the ever increasing screen sizes in the market. 20" is already starting to get a little left behind! :) Both are very good screens, but get the 2407WFP! :p

the 2007 looks so small against the 2407!!

Whats the actual screen size of the 2407?

Im trying so hard to be sensible and go for the small screen, but that 2407 does look so so nice!

well, it's 24" diagonal rather than 20"!! (ps, that's the old 2405FPW and 2005FPW models, but same screen sizes as the current 2407WFP and 2007WFP models)

also, i'm thinking i'd need a GPU upgrade to run it?

my x850xt won't cut it?

i guess you mean gaming?

depends on the game and settings really. you can always play at 1680 x 1050 res (or lower) and either let the screen interpolate that to full screen (doesnt look too bad on modern screens) or play with 1:1 pixel mapping option. this would be kind of like playing a 20"WS screen inside the 24" screen :)

i don't tend to play many games on my pc anymore but more watch movies and play music etc. I will want to plug my 360 into it though.

do you know the size of the screen on the 2407? Height and width?

sat here working out the funds already.... :p

My 2 pence worth, while the 2007WFP is not at all a small screen, and it's a lovely size for PC/360 gaming, I still wish I'd saved up the extra for the 2407WFP. I'm probably going to get a 2407WFP (or equivalent) sometime this year and it's going to end up costing me a lot more in the long run having bought both.

Go for the 2407WFP. You can always run it in 1280*800 in games that are too slow in native res, and you can always buy a new video card.

u right fish .....but if You thinking in long teram would be this 2407 odl in next 6 month-year when they will release 120hz ?
i have got same dillema as Reality and going towards 2407 but next day hmm maybe 2007 will be enough...confusing all the time ;p

If you're going to plug a 360 in then the 24" is the only choice - with a vertical res of 1200 you can play games at 1080i :)

Just be warned that the 2407wfp doesn't support 1:1 pixel mapping at inputs > 720p

<chants>... 2407... 2407...2407....

Even through VGA? I thought I read it could do 1080p through VGA with a 360. Or are you just saying that the image will be slightly stretched (which would be a shame and presumably affect the PQ) since the resolutions aren't exactly the same.

The screen will accept and display the signal, but it will stretch the image to fill, (40 pixels each way).

When it does this you will get some lines across the screen but reducing the image sharpness to 30 fixes the problem.

I see, thanks for the info. A shame it can't just display it 1:1 since I'm sure it would be a little sharper.

On the other hand I have had my mates Xbox 360 at 1080i via VGA on my screen and it looked fine. the stretching was un-noticeable! :)

Just curious about something - how do you know it was running 1080i rather than 1080p? It's just I noticed when using the VGA lead the 360 just lists 1920*1080 and doesn't say whether it's interlaced or not.

What is the point in having 24 monitor that can do 1900 x 1200 and have to have everything on low just to run it, do the sensible thing and get the 20 dell and a nice graphics card with the change!

Xbox 360 don't do 1080P!
