Regarding movie playback. Check over on the [H] board. There's links to some decent upscaling software for dvds that apparently dramatically improves the picture when run at 1080p (aka 1920x1200).

Chips m8ty , apologies if this is a dimbo question however where is this ? as long as you arn't breaking any rules to say of course

Are there any free\shareware apps that perform the same function or is it the case that any decent apps are all going to have a cost factor ?

Dscaler is freeware mate. you need to tinker about with it. but peeps have got some good stuff out of it
