Guys,
don't know whether or nor this has been discussed already.....................but it looks like Dell have dropped the ball with the 2407 in Japan..

:( :( :(

* Picture quality

Pic
Look at this picture above.
You can see every letter blurred upward(1 dot or 2 dots).
This is DVI connection result,not D-sub.
and this is not defect.(DELL Japan said this is not defect.)
Most 2407 owners report this blurring problem.
I strongly hope Dell solve this problem quickly.

* Aspect ratio(component connection)

As you know,former model 2405 have incorrect aspect ratio issue.
(4:3 picture desplayed as 3:2.)
Is this problem solved with 2407?

NO
4:3 picture still displayed as 3:2.

Pic
Some 2407 owners say picture quality(using component) of 2407 totally inferior to 2405.
Personally,This is disastrous.
My plan to play xbox360 with 2407 is terminated.

* DVI-D HDCP - Full HD ready?

People looking forward to watching Full HD movie hooking up playstation 3 or HD DVD,BlueRay player to 2407 using DVI-HDMI cable will be disappointed.
From all reviews available now.2407 cant display 1080i picture.
480p and 720p picture is Okay though.

From what I've read, the 2007 is even worse!

Not sure what you mean about this 4:3/3:2 fault...the only thing I've noticed the 2405 screw up is 1280x720 is displayed in the aspect of 1280x1024 under certain conditions.

I'd like to wait until we see a full US and UK release before judging it too much. There will hopefully be some reviews at places like THG, BH and XBit which wold be handy too, but from those user reports it doesn't look too good. I really hope they haven't dropped the ball, as reports of the 2007WFP haven't been the best either :(

Not looking to good though is it. Be interesting to see the reviews when it is released here. If you look hard enough there are reviews that paint the 2405 in a bad light so who knows...

The 2405 does have flaws...but most of the things levelled against it are intrinsic properties of all TFT screens currently available or the VA technology. The screen lag will annoy the most hardcore of hardcore gamers.

Still the best screen currently available at the moment though IMO.

Hmmm, doesn't look good. I was looking forward to getting a 2007 after I finish my exams, ah well. I guess it's worth waiting for them to be released in US/UK officially first.

Looks like I have to sell all My spare kit and raise money for My 2405 before they disappear as it appears the 2407 isnt going to be as good- how could Dell do this, its not like its advancements that went wrong its several steps back (If initial reports are correct)

i think we have to be very careful about drawing rash conclusions about the 2407WFP. Those comments are taken from two very brief, and not really very techy reviews, and are not necessarily what everyone will experience. Until the screen is widely available and we can get some good user reviews / comments, and until some reputable and long standing review sites (THG, BH and the like) get hold of the screen, i dont think we can label it as a flop :) The 2007WFP has received some worrying colour banding reports from USA based consumers, but again, I'd like to see more of a wide variety of reviews and user opinions before lablelling it as a poor screen

Agreed..................but personally I've lost faith in Dell screens (as nice as the 2405 is, the whining and wavy line over component issue that affected a large number of screens is testament to lax quality control)
Wouldn't surprise me if we see issues like the above........hopefully not :( :(

Dell looking into it ???

but there aren;t many screens which you could say were pefect, it's just one of those things, the Dell 2405FPW and their other models do do a lot of things welll. These are issues certainly, but then other models have complaints about backlight bleed, poor colour gradients, no functionality.....the 2405FPW and 2407WFP try to do a lot of things with their wealth of inputs and functionality, let's hope they're not trying to do too much :)

Don't get me wrong Baddass..................On the whole I'm very pleased with the 2405........my concern is that one should expect a certain level of basic quality.
All LCDs, monitors or TVs are no exception...........especially considering how far the technology has travelled over the last few years.
I mean I'm currently typing this on my 2405 and I'm delighted with it, even from a gaming perspective. Unfortunately it is my third one ( :( the component issue still rears its head after a while :( ), and in any electronic consumer field, that is unacceptable.
In the end, I doubt my next purchase will be a Dell monitor, even if the 2407 has no issues.
The 2405 does all I need it to at the moment but with all the issues I have seen along with many others worldwide, there will always be this nagging doubt about Dell's build quality...

The other thing of course is that once the 07 range is out the 05 range will disappear pretty quickly if not immediately, which means if you dont leap now, you either dont leap at all or you get stuck with potentially an inferior product (for possibly a higher price)

Some companies keep varying amounts of "old" stock for the purpose of warranty replacements, however with such a long warranty offered on the Dell, I presume a 2407 swap-out will happen eventually.

I read a review on the 2007fpw and it says that it is compatible with blu-ray etc. And says that its ready for windows vista. Just wondering what that means?

Well this could well explain the delays in US and UK launches (although of course the 2007fpw is available in the US) - at least the Japanese are acting as beta testers and not us ;)

The thing I find most disappointing is the lack of even 1080i support, let alone 1080p, as I was hoping to buy this monitor and use it for the next 4 years or thereabouts, so full HD compatibility would've been nice :(

Guess I'll just have to wait and see what BenQ do with the FP241W :rolleyes:
