Dell 2407 Sucks

Guess I'll just have to wait and see what BenQ do with the FP241W
If anyone is gearing towards the 23" - 24" LCD monitors market sector, my personal suggestion is that they stand still and just wait. Really no reason that you glue blindly to the Dell badge, at this stage. Other manufactures will also promote their models in the next month or two and some interesting ones will emerge, no doubt.

just wait, lots of 23"/24" models will be appearing, HP, DELL, BenQ, Apple, Philips and Iam 100% sure on these manufacturers. This leaves Viewsonic, NEC, Sony etc...

I'm not looking to buy until September anyway, so I'm more than happy to sit back and see which monitor comes out on top (or has the least problems, as is normally the case with TFTs  ). Mentioned the BenQ because of its HDMI support - haven't heard of any other manufacturers including one as of yet

I really hope this is a good monitor, it looks perfect on paper, ie the 2405 with a nicer stand and HDCP and also a slightly faster panel.

But if it sucks I will be annoyed, as said above, wait for some official reviews of the UK/US versions.

So what is the alternative for gaming grade LCD with HDCP and 24". There isn't much :(

Looks like the 3007 it is :D (and another 7900GTX lol.)

1 reason I like Dell is that they scale well to games that don't run in the native rez. The Viewsonics (VX2025) don't do this. :(

Samsung 244T. The very same monitor by the look of it, just not made by Dell, and as such probably not as cheap, but since that has some great reviews out and no blurring issues seem to be around on boards I'd pay the little extra for that TFT instead (around £850).

Any chance of OCuk getting these in you think?

There have been reports that the Samsung 244T has terrible lag problems, whether or not they're isolated cases, I'm not sure.

BenQ's (who are very much into making gaming displays) new 24" HDCP-compliant HDMI monitor should be out in June, also many other manufacturers will most likely announce HDCP-compliant monitors in the next few months, as mentioned above.

Yeah it's a wait and see game (not good for impatient types like me!). I nearly went for the 20" NEC but I'm glad I didn't now as I have just got a laptop with a 1650x1050 display and I'd like more desktop space. Although I suppose I'll get used to it...

Regarding the 244T lag issue, heres a comparision someone has done with the 244T (PVA) and the 3007 (SIPS)

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1049569

It shows the 244T lagging about 40ms behind the 30" dell, theres been other comparisions against CRTs showing similiar results.

The 2407 uses the same panel as the 244T so i would wait to see if anybody reports similiar issues with the DELL.

The ACER 24" monitor which again uses the same panel as the 244T has also been reported to exhibt lag.

My feeling is that HDMI is much more pushed into the HDTV LCD sector which may sound logical as this is primary role of such screens and LCD monitors are still not particularly popular for the movie playback. Regarding the LCD monitors, my guess is that HDMI will eventually be available on the selected 24" or larger models (purely because of the screen size), but 20" range will not be affected that much.

Unfortunately, LCD monitors are still questionable for the movie playback when compared to the dedicated LCD TV sets. Usually, LCD TV panel electronic control circuit is much more developed for the movie playback and additional features are improving the playback quality (including the suppression of the common LCD noise, better colours and contrast rate).

It's rather hard to find the LCD monitor who will excel in both movie playback and computer usage. This is maybe the reason why I (personally) always liked idea to have the dedicated LCD monitor (which is doing the best in his own field) and on the other hand dedicated HDTV-LCD TV screen/set for the proper movie playback. It's more expensive set-up, but you are getting the best of both worlds.

I read a review on the 2007fpw and it says that it is compatible with blu-ray etc. And says that its ready for windows vista. Just wondering what that means?

lol. Some review.
It means that if you have a computer that can play blu-ray discs, your monitor will be able to display it. It also means that if your computer has windows vista installed, your monitor will be able to display it - all other monitors out there won't work with windows vista you see :D
