I was looking at getting a quad g5 and hooking it up with a 3007. I remembered reading in one of the early reviews that the 3007 came without a built in scaler chip and therefore has no OSD menus. With windows Dell provided a driver that incorporated into the Forceware drivers from Nvidia to control the screen brightness etc.

So the question is just if it is possible to use the 3007 with a Mac and if there is something I should be aware with that combination. Thanks in advance for any assistance :)

Not sure if it's that easy tbh. My Quad G5 has a 7800gt in it and has only got resolution options upto 1680x1080, my 20" Cinema Displays Native Res. I don't get any other options above that and would imagine you won't either as there won't be an inf file for it (or Mac equivilent), the 30" cinema display one MAY work but I wouldn't guarantee it.

Yup, obviously check it has a dualDVI output, as for the other part, I am unsure, Most people seem to be using them with PCs.

suerly a G5 will run at native res no problem in 2D,are you planning on doing much 3d work/games?

It will be mostly used for SDTV video editing possibly some HDTV editing in the future, and the 6600 and 7800GT both have a single dual-link DVI and a single-link DVI output, so they both support one 30incher and a smaller screen. If I want to drive 2*30 screens I will have to go with the Quadro FX4500 which has 2 dual link DVI outputs.

So I know that the 30 cinema displays from apple work, but just wanted to check and see if 3007 also would work as it seems to be the same LCD panel as the 30 Apple but a different choice in the electronics choice driving the panel.

Quoted from the extremetech review "The two adjustment buttons on the front only adjust brightness. There is no on-screen display. In fact, this monitor has no image processing chipset built-in, unlike most desktop displays, and relies on the PC graphics card control panel to manage all settings. We'll touch on that issue more in a bit. "

It seems like it should work though, just wanted to hear if anyone had any other opinions :)

Thats because the OS knows the res of your 20" display and wont allow you to go higher because it dont support higher on the display. But the 7800GT can do way higher res, even graphics cards that are years and years old will go higher, and you would get the higher res options if you had a display that supported them.

I see no reason why a 30" Dell wouldnt work on the G5.
