I'm on a 24" Dell wfp at the moment and have wanted to get a 30" for a long time..

I'm going to be hooking it upto a 5970 when I can get hold of one..

I keep hearing about the input Lag in the forums..funnily no one mentions it on the reviews in the shop reviews ?

I think the 5970 has a display port connection would that help with the lag ?
...my only issue on my 24" has been vertical banding in games not input lag...I take it by input lag meaning when you turn your weapon in game there is a delay between what you do with the mouse and what happens on screen?

It's going to be for gaming everything from Empire to unreal 3 ,unreal 2004 crysis etc..
I also do level editing in unreal ed and large screen res would be a major plus here...

Do current owners wish they had bought there's or never have botherd?

My purchase button is on hovermode..don't mind the cost just don't want a dud..

thanks

Hi,

input lag describes the lag of refreshing the picture on quick changes like rapidly moving a window.

A very good demonstration here:

Personally never experienced this effecting me in game or even disrupting my desktop experience. I currently run a Dell 2407 rev 4. But similar to You I always fancied a Dell 30", its just that they are rather more expensive compared to the prices of 24". I will likely just buy another 24 to replace my second screen that is a 19".

I think it's one of these things that only really picky people will notice. The sort of person that will argue until his last breath about the merits of IPS/PVA monitors over TN.

If that describes you then you should perhaps avoid a 30"

not really but I do play ut 2004 a lot and fly round levels a bit like a nutter lol...but my 2407 is fine for me ?
I like the sound of old or whatever the new tech is but really just want to buy whats avalible now not in 4 years time..
If there was a 36" wide curved screen with a res of say 4500 by 1600 rather than using 3 seperate monitors I would be there in a flash (though not alienwares bloated job)..eve if it costed more!

If you, like me, do not have a problem with the 2407 then you will have no issue with the 30" Dell.

I've once sat in front of the 30" and its a beast. Its got so much screen real estate that it can become a bit annoying when you open a window maximized. Have only played very shortly but the screen for my taste is a bit to big for gameing as it's size has a massive resolution that is very taxing on the GPU as well as the player. To big to have the full width in sight. Maybe an owner of such screen can give a better insight as this might very well just need a "getting used to".

Personally I am drawn more and more to get a 2nd or even 3 24" screen's instead where I can "game full screen" on one and have a few windows visible the same time to check incoming mail, instant messages and TS.

Another 2407 owner here, and I still love it after 3years of use.

I think 30 is starting to get a little big for a desk screen imo. Saying that however I think my next screen purchase will be a projector :D Why have 30" when you can have 100" or more

I have had a 3007 for a few years and just got a 3008 2 months ago. I only do some occasional gaming these days, some FPS and some RTS games. I have to say that I don't notice any real problem with input lag on mine, but depending on how picky you are opinions vary. I have been very happy with my 3007 and my 3008, and can only recommend them for most uses. For hardcore gaming where every little detail counts, then you would probably be better off with the smaller and quicker screens :-)

Moved from a 2407 to a 3007 and i'de do it again if I had the chance without a shadow of a doubt. I use my computer for photo editing with only a little casual gaming, though my GTX260-216 is still running MW2 at 2560 x 1600 without any issue at all. It's a fantastic screen, the only thing I'de move to would be an Eizo Colouredge.

Did it arrive , If so what do you think of it ?
Hi guys
Sorry I never got back b4 ...its here its truely monolithic in size.
I will post some feed back but am also in the middle of building a new system.
a taster shot if you will...

:D

I'll try and do a review and some better shot as soon as I can..but to say avatar at max settings at 2560x1600 is a new experiance for me in terms of gaming and makes crysis look a bit ....er dated imho (<--My):o

the 3008WFP is getting on for 2 years old now. isnt there anything "newer", technologically speaking?

There are high hopes for NEC's new PA range. There will be a 30" IPS behemoth there too.

Something I am serisouly considering. 23"-24" let alone 22" is just getting too small these days.

There were never graphics cards to run these 30" monsters though at decent fps in a lot of games.

But that has all changed now with Radeon 58xx series.

The future for displays looks promising. Lets hope it delivers.

I just went from a 2407wfp to a 3008wfp.

Thoughts:

Size: Huge! Great!

Colour: Love it

Lag: I cant really see it being much slower than the 2407.

Worth the money?: Still not sure.. I essentially burned up around £600 quid after selling the 2407 for this upgrade. Part of me thinks it was just over-kill. A 2nd 2407 would have been more than enough but the other part of me just likes having nice parts for my PC. So in honesty, it is a waste of money but if you like wasting money on PC bits go for it. I love mine :)
