Hi,

Hope it is though been itching to get my hands on one of these although looking closer at the pictures of the unit from the Dell support site im not too sure about the keyboard anymore.

**EDIT Looks like it could be tomorrow or friday several sites reporting thursday the 4th and some friday the 5th**

Cheers,

£300, they having a laugh! Oh well.

Looks like i'll be getting a medion akoya mini for £279.99 with a free 3 year warranty!!

The spec is currently only available in the below, but at £299 including delivery I think its a nice package, almost makes me thing I should have waited and not got my Aspire One, but I have had it a while and loving it. (Must think positive)

So the spec here is as follows:
Inspiron Mini - Only in Black at the Moment
1.6Ghz Atom
XP Home Edition
1.3MP Camera
8.9" TrueLife Screen
1GB Ram
16GB SSD
Intel 950 Graphics Card
Wireless b/g (Not sure on chipset)
Bluetooth
4 Cell Battery

Its actually £279 with £20 Delivery.... Still dissapointed but you have to remember this is the highest specification model there will be cheaper models avialable in due course.

Cant seem to see it on the US site to do a price comparison either..... **EDIT Seems to be $449 for the top model with the linux base model for $349 You can even get it for $99 if you purchase with another Dell laptop!**

I still think vendors are missing the point here at £300 i would be tempted to spend another £200 and get something like the samsung Q210 admittedly a 12.1" screen so a lot bigger but still compact and portable and a real laptop. I still think the sweet spot and impulse buy for these machines is £200 which is what the rumoured price of the base Dell was supposed to be.........

Cheers,
Hugest

Bigger ssd, bigger battery, everything else pretty much the same, but for me atleast its worth it just for the battery. Oh and the wireless N would be usefull too.

DavidB, is that a Dell option or another brand?

Look like the eee 901 specs :) and i agree with David.... Dell have not come to market with a competative price... The eee 901 is a better machine for the same money its a little smaller (guessing from the pics of the dell) has wireless draft N and a better battery although if you go with the XP eee you lose 4gb of SSD over the Dell but if you shop around it can also be had a little cheaper. I think I might go for the advent or the akoya now.

Cheers,

Tis eee 901 specs indeed, im disapointed, really though dell would have bought something cheaper/better value to the market.

Instead its not competetive at all,

I guess the thing to remember with Dell is they price they say one day is totally different the next.

There is often about five ways to price the same item. Maybe they will do a £50 discount coupon next week or something.

Unfortunately, for those of us who have waited ages for this to be released, i think it will be too little too late.

hey,

There seems to be a lot of negative feedback on various forums about the pricing of this..... Even the americans are saying (where it is cheaper) the pricing sucks and that the acer is much better value... there are people who started threads and were chomping at the bit to get one of these but are now not sure if they will even buy one.. Way to go Dell be late to market and then dont compete. Well if they want to sell some of these they are going to have to drop prices or offer vouchers... Dell seem to have dropped the ball lately. The 120gb Linux Acer Aspire One at £229 is looking to be a real bargain right now.

Cheers,
Hugest

I was almost tempted to wait for this, but I'm glad I went for the Acer at £199.

Pretty, maybe, but not good spec for dosh.....as you point out.....still leaves the Wind/4211 in pole, by my reckoning....

The keyboard looks awful, F1-F10 are on the middle key row accessed via Fn key and there's no F11 or F12 at all. Also shiny screen so you can't use it outdoors.

Price looks ok to me though, pretty similar to other 1GB/XP/16GB SSD netbooks. Plus Dell always have offers on.
