Dell E228WFP 22" Widescreen

at £275 this seems really good :(, i'm so tempted to pick up a new 22" ws tft now (i.e. bilinea or the the asus) but this is having me in some serious doubts as i know dell tft's have a very good reputation! hmmz i think i'l just have to spend my money on something else (new case and cooler is in order) this way i can wait for the uk release and see for myself how it gets on! *damn i was so looking foward to a new monitor too*

Is there any news on when this monitor is likely to be released over here as yet fellas? I was thinking about buying the Belinea, but this sounds a bit better.

Although I have one question:

It says on the website that this panel uses TN film, which I seem to remember reading weren't as good as PVA. I think it was a post where someone was considering the Hyundai or the Belinea and the Belinea was favoured because it used PVA rather than TN. Perhaps Dell's use of the TN tech is better? I really don't know...

Anyway, if there is any news I would be appreciative.

Cheers :)

Well I know what you mean. I'm about to upgrade and will actually be running a system that could justify a bigger monitor and I think 22" is about the right price point for me (as long as it doesn't exceed £300 basically). Anyway, being an ignoramus, the Dell strikes me as being a well regarded brand and Belinea strikes me as being a bit bargain. This might be totally unfounded, but that is just my conception. I also prefer the aesthetics of the Dell. Just wondered if it's worth hanging on for... also whether it's going to yield a better picture, what with it using TN as opposed to PVA.

EDIT... Think I put in a competitor by accident there. Or at least a link with competitors on it...

That's the thing, if it's using the same TN panel as "most" others do, then what set's it apart from the rest?

all the 22" market are using Tn Film at the moment, and only a hand full of panels are available as well. The things you have to decide on are looks, functionality and price :) Makes it a bit easier though and similar to situations we have had before in the saturated 17" and 19" TN Film market

So what's your 22" monitor of choice? :)

well the Samsung SM225BW offers some good functionality and build quality and materials are likely to be good being a Samsung model. The Asus MW221U is supposed to offer a lead in responsiveness though, being very good in practice (Behardware review here). The Dell looks nice too, in terms of design and support is generally very good from Dell as well.

Cheers, after reading that article I'd personally go with the Samsung as well, it seems like the best "all rounder". It's a shame the Asus has such bad colour rendering... I liked that one. :p

Thanks for your input Baddass.

I was thinking a bit more about this and I have a Samsung at the moment and have never had a problem with it. Is there anything other than the looks and the HDCP compliance that sets this apart from the Dell? I don't know if I'm really going to need HDCP if I get around to buying an HDTV anyway, so that shouldn't really sway my judgement.

I guess I'll just wait and see what the Dell retails at before making my decision. I take it we're waiting on Dell to release this outside of Australasia before we know a price point?

Cheers (Merry Christmas)
