I think i have decided this monitor ahead of the Samsung SM245B.

Can anyone who owns the Dell tell me what they used to tune the monitor and if poss post settings oh and also tell me i have made the right decision?
 
In a way its a bit of a strange decision :)

Its not class leading yet its priced pretty much as the most expensive 22". Then again theres no much difference between most of these 22" monitors. Then again the Samsung SM245B is not class leading either! might pay you to do a bit of research into them.

Having said that...its usually best to just pick the one which you prefer the styling of the most:)

I've had mine since Monday, and I can honestly say that this is a pretty good monitor. May not have the same viewing angles of say an PVA panel, but to me the angles don't bother me as I sit in front of it and never from the side, why would I?

Out of the box, it seemed very bright, too bright for me, so I changed some of the settings to alter this. I used the Online Monitor Test and its helped me adjust it somewhat better. Would be no point in giving you my details as your viewing preferences will differ from mine.

I don't play many games and so I couldn't rearlly comment on how good or bad this monitor is or behaves. I have though watched a number of HD movies, and I can confirm that because this monitor is Full HD the image quality is fantastic. Compared to my HDTV its far superior, but then my TV carn't handle the same resolution.

I would say that for the money I paid, its a very good monitor, doesn't have the same, so called quality panel, as say the OcUK Value L2442W but it's probably of better build quality, comes with a 4 year NBD warranty, and for me a dead pixel guarantee. You can buy this cheaper elswhere, which is what I did, so I only ended up paying approx £45 more than the L2440W.

I have taken a few pics of it in action, not very good quality I must admit, but I think you'll see whats its about.

Well I had purchased the OCUK 24" screen but I have just returned my second screen and awaiting my 3rd screen (black line running through the screen). So I am now seriously considering going with another screen. I already have a Dell 2405FPW and want to add this second screen for my 3D Modelling work (its easier and saves time if I don't have to keep changing between programs etc). Thus the E248 will fit in a lot better with my Dell than the OCUK.

So although the Dell E248WFP is a TN panel it won't be used for games, well I might use it for Supreme Commander but it will only be displaying a map. What I am wondering is how well it displays photo's etc as I do some photo work too. Do you have any issues with ghosting at all? What is the quality of build like as the OCUK frame/stand imo are a bit tacky. Oh could you also tell me how heigh it is from desk to the top of the monitor?

I would also appreciate if you emailed (trust button) or msn'd (under my name) me as I have another question but I can't ask it on the forum.

I don't personnaly see any ghosting, although thats not to say there isn't any. I find it more than acceptable for what I use it for.

What is the quality of build like as the OCUK frame/stand imo are a bit tacky.

Build quality is pretty good, nice feel to it in actual fact, sits on the stand, which again is very good. Must point out though, that it has no swivel feature or the ability to rotate, but I guess you know this already. All you have is forward and backward movement. No other extras either such as usb etc. This I didn't mind, as I just wanted a basic screen.

How high it is from desk to the top of the monitor?

The height from dest to the top is 440mm with the screen square on. And 660mm from side to side.

the problem with viewing angles, is the bigger your display is, the better the viewing angles have to be. think about it, you may be sitting right in front of the middle of the screen, but the side? the wider the screen, the bigger the angle is, and the more important the viewing angle becomes.

on big screens, 24 inch and larger especially, you may well find that colours arent the same at the edges of the screen as they are in the middle. if the 248 is anything like the 228wfp, then it shouldnt be much of a problem. but then the colours on the 228 were awful anyway.
 
Well sitting in front of it as I speak, it seems quite acceptable to me. Colour quality is also very good too. Now if I had an 8bit monitor to compare it to, I may find that there is a difference, but for me this one is acceptable for what I use it for.

Having moved up from a 3 year old 17" Samsung, it did take a while getting used to it, lol. And in actual fact the viewing angles were slightly better using the samsung.

But for anyone wanting a fairly cheap TN based 24" monitor, this one should be anyones short list.
 
Anyone else able to chip in any comments on this monitor. I gotta order one in the morning.......
 
I've got one but I've only had it running off the laptop as my system went bang a week before it arrived.

Great monitor, looks really nice, good colours, no dead pixels and minimal backlight bleed that'll no doubt fade when it's been on for a few hours.

Can't comment on it's gaming potential yet as I've got no games on the craptop but I'm sure it'll be fine.
 
Hey guys,

Just got the monitor and no dead pixels and it looks awesome. Only thing thats slightly annoying is the colour setup is horrible. So what have you guys adjusted your Brightness, Contrast, Red, Green and Blue settings to?

There is a definete difference in panels between this and my Dell 2405 but I have yet to calibrate the E248 so who knows maybe I can get it better.
 
Have you managed to get it setup right yet, would be interested in what values you use.

Mine are fairly basic at the mo, setting are:
B = 34
C = 52
CM = On
CSM = Graphics

Havn't touched the other settings as yet.
 
Monitor set up and I have to say I am VERY happy with it :D 's all round. COD4 is much better on this screen than my previous 17" one :cool:
 
I got one of these aswell a week or so a go, TN's have greatly improved in the last 2 years. Just tried HL2 ghosting/bluring is minimal, this is the fastest panel Ive used so far. Also there is minimal tearing, I was expecting a lot worse after using PVA based monitors which were pathetic, tearing was annoying and obvious.

For the price its excelent, after Apple didnt anounce new displays I had to go for something else but at the same time I needed a stop gap monitor until the 26" LG S-IPS (W2600A) appears in April/May. I can sell the E248WFP for a good price and at the same time spend abit more for a much better display later.
