Dell farce

It sounds like it is highlighting their stupidity so I see no reason for OcUK to want to stop it lol.

OK, so when you go to buy, there are two points at which you can buyt MS Office Home and Student, so I saked what the difference ws:

Initial Question/Comment: There are two options in different places to buy MS Office Home and Student, are they both the same?
22:18:05 System You are now being connected to an agent. Thank you for using Dell Chat
22:18:05 System Connected with **Dell salesperson**
22:18:20 **Dell salesperson** Thank you for contacting Dell Chat Sales. This is **Dell salesperson**, your Sales Advisor
22:18:50 **Dell salesperson** If you buy it with the system you have it pre installed otherwise you get the CD and you have to install it yourself
22:19:14 Me: is that the difference between the two options?
22:19:55 **Dell salesperson** No
22:20:41 Me: so please, what is the difference between the two options
22:21:05 **Dell salesperson** As I told you there is no difference
22:22:09 Me: so if i buy, will i get it pre-installed or on a CD?
22:22:20 **Dell salesperson** Yes
22:23:14 Me: does it come pre-installed with a CD?
22:23:40 **Dell salesperson** May I have your telephone number?
22:25:00 Me: no, i just want to know if i buy dell today, will office come pre-installed without a CD, or pre-installed WITH a CD
22:25:37 Me: I want to be able to install t on other computers too
22:25:40 **Dell salesperson** I think you are not able to get this over the chat
22:26:44 Me: does the dell come with an CD/DVD with the Office software, why can't you tell me on chat, but you can tell me on the phone?
22:27:31 **Dell salesperson** If you buy it with the system you have it pre installed otherwise you get the CD and you have to install it yourself
22:27:49 **Dell salesperson** You will not get the CD if you buy it with the system
22:27:57 **Dell salesperson** You will only get a backup disk
22:28:10 Me: thank you
22:28:34 Me: will i be able to use the backup disk to install MS Office Home and Student onto another PC?
22:28:51 **Dell salesperson** No
22:29:19 Me: Does it come with a 3-user licence?
22:29:46 **Dell salesperson** It only comes with a single user license
22:30:06 **Dell salesperson** If you buy it separately it comes with a 3 user license
22:31:53 Me: and can i buy it separately when buying a dell laptop through the dell website?
22:32:11 **Dell salesperson** Yes, you can
22:33:12 Me: thank you, my first question asked : was there a difference between the two options presented on the dell website and you answered no, now you say yes, which is the correct answer?
22:33:26 System **Dell salesperson** has left this session!
22:33:26 System The session has ended!

Notice how he rudely cut me off when I pointed out his mistake!

Do you have nothing better to do with your time than try to whind up some dell sales person?

He answered the question on two different levels.

I do quite like that

Thank you for sharing, online support can be interesting.

I've just been informed by intel that if I use any cooler that is not the stock one, and any tim which is not a specific intel branded one bought from america, my warranty will be void. Boo

I'm not sure he did PwnDirect, after rereading that I do not know if it is possible to buy the 3 licence version with a laptop, and certainly not which stage I would add it to the basket

also try calling Dell next time - their CS is usually excellent over the phone in my experience. Most of these internet chat support lines are manned by people who aren't allowed to talk to people directly over the phone for a reason ;)

I really wasn't trying to wind him up, and I know in hindsight he answered the questions in his way, but at the time of answering, it was unclear. and it would certainly be unclear to anyone going through the laborious process of 'customising' one of these laptops. The website should also make it clear, that the first time the option is presented it is a one-user licence pre-installed, no CD, the options are not even on the same page, one is at the beginning and one one is near the end.And there are about 25 pages to go through!

It probably looks like I was winding him up because I had to spell things out so simply just to try and get a straight answer. Both his answers could have been misconstrued.

Enjoyed this thread. Typed support is always interesting as typed words never have the same effect as spoken words...Can be likend to talking to the other half....lol... P.I.T.A IMO. Would rather call anyone anyday than try to type, i can never get out what i want to say in words but according to my GCSE's 3 years back I did fine :)

I can actually answer the question... All Office Ready PC's have Office installed but the media is not supplied. This is down to microsoft OEM conditions of supply... You can buy media seperatly once you recieve the system/licence direct from microsoft. Otherwise you can buy a retail version and you get the media and licence (3 installations per household)

:)

Dell..

All too familiar! I had similar difficulties when trying to get details on a prospective laptop purchase. I called in the end and whilst the guy on the phone was clearly desparate for a sale, he was at least informative.
