Dell Latitude E5440 turns back on after shutdown Please help

Hi all,

I have a Dell Latitude E5440 that i brought second hand. after i shut the unit down after about 5-10 seconds it decides to turn it self back on. i have checked all time settings in Bios which all seem to be disabled. so cannot understand why this keeps happening. i took out the laptop battery to keep it off and every time i but battery back in i have to reset the date and time. so i was suspecting the cmos battery can any body confirm or deny.

Whats your bios version?

A14 seems to fix system powering on itself.

Latest version is A18

i have tried to install that bios but it keeps happening

Did you check bios settings for power options, it might set to auto restart.

Yes, replace the CMOS battery if you're losing time/date settings. Looks like it's on a wire though, you can get a used one for about £2.50 on the bay. Or macgyver one yourself with tape.
