dell losing the plot

Knew you would say that... it looks part plastic. Who cares? It makes it lighter and nobody sees the back. Plus... who would honestly buy a dell for the case? (or at all for that matter)

Mr shadow, well you obviously care, otherwise you would not have commented on it :)

Who's talking about buying it? lol

What CaSh_MoNeY said, you were the one who said 'Only the front is plastic nothing else Alu_ATC' - so it seems you would care. The back does look plastic, although we can't be sure. But i bet there is a lot more plastic inside.

You don't really believe Dell would make a 100% aluminium case bar the front panel do you? As usual, Dell attaches the panels to a sub frame inside which holds it all together.

Oh, and Beansprout, the plastic is on the front panel and probably a lot more inside. The back too is probably plastic :)

That's what I was confused about, they didn't word it very well...they said it's all aluminium but then, the front/back probably don't count as the "case"....either way I'd never buy one :D

True, the article is not worded well. I wouldn't touch one let alone buy one, but I do feel it is an improvment over what they have now. Ill always be a custom PC man, but any manufacturer that tries to promote different design and start to intergrate some kind of aestehtics in to any computer case deserves a bit of credit imo.

I played around with a red one of these XPS 700's today. The sides and top are indeed 2mm aluminium but as some people rightly pointed out, it is coated in what appears to be plastic. Not brushed as I would have liked. The front is completely plastic. Alumiunium would have been way nicer, and the little slats in the top section contain either 3 or 4 stealthed drive bezels. Very delicate it seems and easy to snap these off but they clip back on. The bottom front section has a 120mm fan housed behind it and this blows air over directly into a cpu duct (same as the 9150). The cooling is very good, and quiet. PSU is 750w. No airfilter on the front though. Overall better then the outgoing XPS Gen 6 which was based on an old Precision chasis and very plasticy. These new ones should be popping up any day now online.

Would you believe it's been in the lab for over 3 months. no one knew what it was till the otherday. I always assumed it was a workstation chasis with a missing bezel :) Unfortunately if I take some pics it could be sacking time. So I better play it safe. But these are due very soon as the press release said. I can tell you though they don't seem to weigh any less then the XPS Gen 6. The actual casing feels like it is made from cast iron :) The cooling is very nice though and pretty quiet and it can handle 2x7900gtx;physx card,xi-fi, at least 4 hardrives, 4 external drives, and an Intel Pentium D 965 (3.77). No sign of any quad sli setups yet that I can see.

<edit>I have probably broken the rules now, so I will stop commenting on it now</edit>

You wont have broken a NDA if you are under one, as nothing you have said could not be guaged from the pictures. :)

If your under a NDA just edit yours posts and keep your trap shut. :p

Not under an NDA at all in fact but I guess it is implied by contract of employment which is why I have not said anything you could not see from the pics. Still not allowed take pics of my own though. Camera phones not allowed in certain areas :) Pity, as we get the coolest peripherals and pc bits to play with months before it comes out.

I found out about the V600 months in advance, you should have seen my posts, I recon a smaller v1000+ will be coming out. Got to.

Sandmaster500 on my MSN got slightly annoyed. :p

NDA's are satan, what is the point knowing about things if you can't tell everyone about it! ;)
