Anyone got any experience of getting Dell monitors fixed outside of warranty?

Got the opportunity to buy a Dell monitor from a friend for a significantly discounted price as he has lost all of the documentation for it. In essence I'd just be getting the monitor and its cables, and nothing more.

It works perfectly at the moment - no dead pixels or backlight issues, but as with all things in life there is always a risk it could stop working, and its a sizeable enough amount of money for me to worry about it disappearing quite literally in a puff of smoke.

I know monitors don't have service tags, and Dell have always asked about an order/invoice number when I've had my 2005FPW replaced (horrible backlight issues), so I can only presume they wouldn't give a warranty on just the serial number alone...

Anyone have any thoughts?

I'm pretty sure they would, if they serial show the manufactured item is still under warranty there shouldn't be a problem.
