Got my array reporting a degraded raid. Checked into the Perc's bios and it's rebuilding a disk... odd but happy to let it get on with it.

Is there any option to sit and watch it do this realtime (i.e progress bar) rather than having the PC up and running doing other things while it tries to sync the disks in the background?

You're looking for an option where the rebuild becomes the priority task rather than an online rebuild running in the background? The only way to do that is going to be in the RAID BIOS.

Seems an odd request though, RAID is an availability solution so it's designed to allow you to keep working while it does it's stuff as quickly as possible while causing the minimum of disruption.

The card has a rebuild priority setting that determines how fast the rebuild is done compared to other IO requests. I only know how to adjust this in Linux I'm afraid.

Install the MegaRaid storage manager from the LSI site. You can view progress and change rebuild rates using that.
The progress bar only updates periodically, so don't think it's frozen if you don't see it move.
