Hi Folks,

So I have just completed a pretty heft upgrade of my system and now rock a 1080 and 6700K.

My focus is now on my monitor which I have had for 3-4 years, the DGM IPS-2701WPH.

I randomly was looking at the Dell S2716DG with G-sync and noticed that tft central has an input lag of around 4 ms, in comparison to my DGM IPS-2701WPH's 28ms!

This got me thinking, is this an upgrade path worth pursuing, swapping out a 1440p 60hz for a 1440p Dell S2716DG.

Good choice, or just daft?

Opinions appreciated.

Ordered the S2716DG last night.

Although there is no tearing as I always use v-sync the stuttering is noticeable if it drops below 60fps at all.

Looking forward to seeing what all the fuss around G-sync and 60+ fps is all about! Nearly every review I read says you can never go back to 60hz. I have never experienced anything but, and it appears pretty fluid to me, but we shall see!

Prices seem pretty insane across the board. Looking on the Kindle folks store and the price was £700 recently for the Dell!

Anyways, it waseither take the plunge or wait until who knows for the price to drop. Should be here tomorrow. Offloaded my old panel to a colleague last night.

Zola, you said to turn vsync on. Doesn't that not mean that lag will appear on the occasion that the fps exceed 144? Obviously it will be a lot less than my current set up which is solid 60fps.

Yep, you're quite right. You can either leave it off totally which can result in tearing over 144Hz, or you can set v-sync = Fast Sync in the control panel. That will allow the GPU to keep rendering frames but it doesn't output them all to the screen, apparently it's very close to lag free.

Alternatively you can cap your game to 144 or below.

Thanks Zola, when you say 'cap' are you meaning through the like of Nvidia Inspector?

I didn't see this topic when I posted mine about the dell I was thinking of getting https://www.overclockers.co.uk/dell...reen-led-monitor-midnight-grey-mo-084-de.html. I am this - close on buying it when it comes in stock but is there a big difference in pixelating or anything else between 27" and 24" 1440p?.

I actually ordered it from OCUK but they failed to dispatch on the day after order so cancelled and ordered from the folk that sell Kindle books. Expedited delivery so I have it tomorrow before the hols.

Impressed so far, the smoothness is unreal!

Only issue encountered is a random black flicker every few mins, particularly after launching another title. Anyone any ideas how to solve this?

It was a strange one, but restarted my system and used the DP cable supplied with the monitor, now all seems fine. May be my old cable?

Anyways, now I have had a good play around, have to say really impressed. The colours are great. I was expecting less after reading how TN panel apparently are, but not in the least disappointing. Probably notice a difference with an IPS sat next to it. Viewing angles not bad at all.

144hz with G-sync is ace, definitely allowing me to crank up the graphics a bit as the stuttering is not apparent when its in to 50-60 fps range as it was before.

BF1 is something else now! It was my experience with BF1 that started me looking to G-Sync as I had a very apparent lag, first game I really noticed it. Maybe the placebo effect, but certain I am doing better now. Playing classes that I avoided such as sniper and medic as I can actually hit moving targets now, instead of my old 'spray and pray' tactic!

Highly recommended, looking forward to experiencing a lot of my titles again with this display.

You just made me want it even more. Glad colours are good. What the desk top image size like. As when using 1440p DSR icon come small. Is it the same for native 1440p?. Yes I use normal 1080p on desktop just wounded what native be like. Thanks.

Icon size is perfectly manageable, plus you can increase of you don't like the sharper look. I came from 1440p so we'll use to it.
