Thought i would throw this out there and se if anybody knows what this could be.

A guy at work came to me asking me why his screen is flickering, i had a look and it is, but to the point that the icons flicker on and off and if you hit the start menu it flicks up and then goes before you can select anything. Whilst it flickers its un-responsive at the same time (you got to catch it between flickers to do anything).

So, anyone got any ideas? The refresh is fine and the machine being a dell is just onboard everything etc, drivers are uptodate and power lead is connected fine along with all the other leads.

Thanks in advance,

Andy

one possible cause of this could be your gfx card being clocked to high or overheating, happened to me just the other day when trying to get the most out of my card, i put the clock speeds down to defaults again and it worked fine

Nah this is just one of the guys in another dept that me, so just a work machine. This i may of sussed it though. If i start up in Safe mode then it goes away, hmmmm wonder what he has been doing on the net!? ;) Anyway will run and adaware on it and stuff, if not i'm pretty sure its software related, something like a service running in the background.

Thanks though

The monitor only displays the image, so the thing with the start menu confuses me.

If the start menu was actually still there which it would be you'd be able to interact with it but not necessarily see it.

If it works in safe mode then its most definately a software issue, as you said, run the adware/spyware scans, then remove any un-used un-needed software, after that if that still doesnt help, uninstall the drivers and install the latest and see if that clears it up.
