Dell U2412M experiences

I have had no problems with mine since the beginning of august. So therefore have bought two more.

I wouldn't worry too much. I was being extremely fussy. The bleed is not noticeable under 99% of viewing conditions, its only present during a completely black screen and even then its light. The quality of the screen is really nice, I had a U2711 before and this feels very nice for the money.

I'm disappointed with mine. I've been using TN so I'm used to my blacks being black, with my U2412M they're more like dark blues. Even with the contrast and brightness set to 0.

The corners are pretty bad too. Sending it back in hopes I just got a defective one.

Got the monitor on Friday and have been gaming (BF3, ToR and Far Cry 3), watching Netflix and coding on it and so far I love it. Cheers for all the advice everyone, when I get more room I will definitely order another one (or two).

I ordered my u2412m yesterday (Almost feels sad to replace my CRT), it should arrive tomorrow. Does anyone have any proper in-depth guides on the steps I should go through to get the monitor fully setup?

There isn't really that much to set up on it other than a comfortable brightness (contrast at default 75 is fine). My brightness is set to 25 and colour temp set to custom (calibrated by probe) but 6500k works fine if you don't calibrate.

Try all 3 whichever works best for your usage conditions.

Note: Profiles created by someone else on their monitor may provide inaccurate results on your monitor. No two panels will calibrate and profile exactly the same. Panels shift with usage time and backlights aren't always the same between batches either, neither is panel uniformity.

Well It's up an running. No dead pixels and is currently looking quite good at 75 contrast 22 brightness. I'm just now going through some videos, games, things like that to see what it's like. I'm not sure if there is backlight bleed or not, on a black screen the corners look lighter and not uniform, but if I look straight at them it looks black again so maybe if I just play with the monitor position, back a little maybe, it'll make the viewing angle narrower and make it even less noticeable.

I think what's going to take me a while to sort out is playing through the different pre-sets (I'm using standard for now). For example in games I want to be able to differentiate blacks easier, but in movies I want colours true to the way they were intended to be viewed so I assume switching between the setups is important for proper viewing.

On my fourth one. I'm guessing that all U2412M's have not-so-great uniformity?

(The one above also had a dead pixel just above the cursor)

Everything except the panel on the U2412M is great, the stand is sturdy, the panels are simple and sleek. I just find myself trying to move my head to find a good viewing angle sometimes.

I'm not complaining as they're easy enough to return. But is this something that you just have to try and ignore? Or would I be better off with a non-IPS screen?

Isn't that largely over amplified by the camera's longer shutter though?

Here's what mine looks like in reality:

Left = U2412M. Right = U2713HM.

If you move around the screen you get the IPS tinge, this is what I meant earlier about people confusing the tinge with backlight bleed:

(1080P still processing)

What's the difference between the H and HM 27 inch screens. I'm looking for an upgrade from my 2405 that I've used for 6 years or more and has served me well calibrated with a Spyder 3.

How are you finding it calibrated Mrk? I don't game just want more space for lightroom and editing and a better panel to edit on :)

Edit opps just seen your thoughts thread :)
