Hi,

I've currently got a U2711 monitor which I love.

I'm thinking about getting a new XPS 15 laptop (Gt525M card). I've searched and searched and can't find a definitive answer to confirm before I hit the buy button that I'm going to be able to use the laptop with the monitor at 2560x1440.

I don't suppose on the off chance anyone is running the same setup here?

From what I can see, it should be ok, but would prefer an expert opinion first.

Thanks. :)

keep in mind that HDMI will only do 1920 x 1080 (1080P) which will look strange / blurred on a screen with a higher native resolution. you need a Dual link DVI output to handle that res, so maybe best checking with the manufacturer direct.

DisplayPort will be fine.

You'll need a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable or an adapter so you can connect a full size DisplayPort cable.

Cheers.

It looks like it should be ok on paper, but I was hoping to find someone who has said 100% it works for them, but in all my web searching I've drawn a blank. I don't want to blow £600+ on the laptop and then find it doesn't. :(

Apparently dell live help are useless :p

I have U2711 and have just ordered a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable to connect my Macbook to the screen.
I will report back if it works in a couple of days.

I promised to report back on this. Yes it works! MiniDisplayPort-to-DisplayPort cable from Macbook to U2711 works on full res.

I had a u2711 and GFX cards like the ATI 6000 series use mini DP ports. So I used a converter to up it to the normal size with no issues on the resolution so you will be fine.

Use Dell U2711 with Dell XPS 14z on full resolution

I did the above wth only Dell components (U2711 and XPS 14z) and I can confirm that full resolution works just fine with a Mini Display Port to Display Port Cable....you can get it for $20 in the web.

Cheers.
