Looks like Dell will march on with the release of another 13.3" notebook but this time a cheaper Adamo XPS lookalike which is equally thin and futuristic looking.

You had to know Dell's comically secretive product launch strategy would eventually break down, and here we go: although the company is teasing an "unnamed $450 Vostro" to US media, Dell Singapore has just gone ahead and launched the thing officially as the Vostro V13, complete with specs. Oops. While Dell PR tries to put out that fire, we can dance in the rubble and tell you that Dell's putting everything it learned building the Adamo XPS to some more practical use in the .65-inch thick, sub-3.5-pound V13, which packs either a 1.2GHz Celeron, 1.3GHz Core 2 Duo or 1.4GHz Core 2 Solo with integrated X4500MHD graphics under that 13.3-inch screen. Sure, the design isn't as wild as the Adamo XPS, but the extra thickness means that it can accommodate an Ethernet port, along with eSATA, USB, an SD card slot and even a freaking ExpressCard slot. All this for just a confirmed US$450 on the low end? Okay, sign us up. Hit the Dell Singapore link for more pics and a nice 360-degree view.

More info + pics

I would have thought they would have put a HDMI socket on there too really since it has an X4500MHD chipset since all modern businesses have a large display to utilise? I guess VGA is fine though since 1366x768 is very crisp through this chipset.

Still, a nice looking notebook at a rather cheap price point!

And no, I'm not returning the 13z for one of these :p

good God that's beautiful!

it's just a shame I don't need a new laptop at the moment! :(

It is a very pretty Vostro!

I wonder if they kept the crappy trackpad from recent Vostros though as we have some new Vs at work and the trackpad is very laggy :/

my friend got a 1520 just a couple of weeks ago and the trackpad's just fine?

it's on the Dell Australia webbie already, and the top-spec model is just AUD;1300 (£725)

its sort of on the dell uk (business) site now. I've had a chat with the sales rep (online) and it supposedly can manage 3-4 hours with the su7300 cpu but thats without wireless being active (the rep was pretty useless to be honest), it only has a 30whr 6 cell battery according to the specs. Also only has a single ram slot meaning expensive 4Gb upgrades

Personally I think it needs an extra couple of hours battery life and would have preferred a hdmi output (can live without it though)

i can't say i've ever felt the need for HDMI-out on a business portable. all decent projectors have VGA-in anyway...

i agree with you about the battery though, but frankly, i can't see where they've actually stashed the damn thing, so that's somewhat excusable.

I'd only desire a HDMI connector but since it's aimed at business users I guess it's not essential.

It does have a built in battery though which I thought was a bit weird because having that little battery life is a bit iffy with no option to insert a spare battery on the move!

Other than that it's looking to be an excellent laptop especially in the aluminium shell :-o

Does anyone know of any store in the USA that might stock this model?

As I really want it and its much cheaper in the US and happen to be going in Feb ;)

Its starts at $449 on the Dell US site.

buy it online and have it delivered to where you'll be staying?

i hate buying laptops from america, it never works out as cheap as you thought it would and then you're stuck with a US keyboard

Just found a code to get the cheapest v13 for £360 delivered (less £35 cashback) But not 100% sure about the battery life.
