Thought I would start this thread so the newbies could rally together and work our way through the game.

The game certainly doesn't hand hold lol!

After the initial frustrations I now 'get it'. Find myself trying to work out next strategy or level up path.

Don't understand the weapon pathway or builds completely. I beat the 2nd boss last night. Playing as knight mainly with the same long sword I've had from the beginning. I've levelled it up twice but not sure if I should have saved the souls for a different sword. Any tips?

I had a look at royal but one shotting everything early on didn't look that appealing. Quite like the impact of clashing of swords and using the shield so picked knight.

Any early game tips on weapons and armour? I prefer using the long sword atm. Can't really see any advantages from the other swords I've picked up. Picked up a few shields but again the stats are worse or same.

Some guides assume that you're fully kitted and levelled out. Feels like I wasted an evening trying to beat the flamelurker as knight and getting one shotted. I then got lost in a prison. But luckily picked up a club.

Found a sequence guide which says I should do 4-1 after 1-1 and 2-1 (I've done 1-2). The club should help me with 4-1 now against the skeletons. I get its trying to be super hard but literally not telling you anything is bordering on stupid. Apparently, I shouldn't even bother with 2-2 until I've done the others (I at least got some items getting to the damn boss).

I can imagine some veterans reading this and sniggering to themselves :p

Not sure I achieved much this evening. 4-1 now spawning a phantom skeleton at the beginning who's pretty tough. I found the merchant underground and stocked up on meds. Made a flame resistant set and still got owned by the flamelurker.

How are you finding it? My plan is to get through MM and ACV first, then maybe pick up Demon's Souls. I've kinda been put off it by how many people say its ridiculous hard. I don't want to drop £60 on a game that's inevitably going to just **** me off.

It is tough. I'm definitely a more casual gamer than I use to be. Despite that there is a draw to keep pushing and trying. The combat and the way it looks is amazing. I was in the same boat and thought worse case scenario I sell it and lose a tenner. I'm pushing on from now as still enjoying it but sometimes it really does test your patience.

I just think of the tough enemies and bosses as little puzzles that I have to figure out how to over come. Most of the armour sets you find will help you out with poison, fire and magic resistances etc. Some bosses hate fire and some aren't susceptible so try the weapon resins on them to see what really hurts the most. It's just finding out what works the best. If you just try and hack your way through it you will get frustrated. The last boss in Dark Souls I was getting wrecked until I saw someone say 'just parry him' and I was like really? I suck at parrying. Turns out he's the easiest enemy to parry in the game and I killed him in about 10 seconds.

I don't think it's the puzzles and enemies as such because you're right it's fun working out their weakness. It's the complete lack of any guidance of systems etc. Weapon resins - please elaborate.

Resins you pick up or buy from vendors - for fire it is turpentine which is readily available in world 1-1 - because the boss Phalanx is susceptible to fire. The game is actually helping you but it's just not telling you it is. If you click on them you can then 'use' them and your character will apply them to their weapons for increased damage.

Ah yes apologies I know about the fire resin. Didn't realise there were others. Assume loot only and you cannot buy.

So running back and forth between 2.2 , 3-1 and 4-1 has levelled me up somewhat, resupplied meds and upgraded weapons. I'm not sure when I picked up the dragonsword but it kicks ass.

Went to 3-1 and unlocked everything to the boss so ready to fight it tonight.

I found a starter farm area. Jump to 1-3 turn around and kill the 2 blue armoured blokes x2. Some good xp and loads of meds. Then rinse and repeat.

Successful night. Killed fools, flamelurker and the dragon. On the downside when I visited 4-1 theres a new ninja phantom that is 1 shotting me. :(

So my 4-1 is basically messed up now. Because my tendency is black the phantom satsuki is pretty much impossible to beat. Hes at the start and goes straight for you. I cannot progress. Any tips???

Can anyone come and help me kill him lol. I tried coop and even then everyone getting slain

Edit nvm did it :p

Thanks!

The only thing is is that I've only died a couple of times in 4-1. Was just doing a bit of farming there so kept going back to the archstone to reset the area, next thing I know this phantom is smacking me about! The guide there says certain things affect the world tendency - the only thing I've done differently is killing the storm beasts. Can this affect the world tendency?

The Soulsborne series is easily my favourite series ever. I did play the original when I was only 18 but never spent much time on it.

Assuming this is phantom satsuki we are talking about I feel for you! In the end I levelled up a bit used thief ring and summoned a mate and we beat him together.

I've had a good run. I spent some time upgrading my equipment. I'm finding my dragon sword +4 owning most things. Got a few other swords for magic and normal damage.

5 bosses left.

now do 4-2 in pure black :)

After finishing it, I'm cruising through the game now, every other area feels extremely easy - every boss in 5 was super easy

Yes, same here. Finished all of 4. Old hero second attempt. Glad I don't need to go back to 4 ever again.

I'm now facing the penultimate boss. Seems quite tough tbf. Its been a journey .
