Twitter is currently buzzing about the death of Dennis Ritchie, the visionary creator of UNIX and C, among other things. We hope it's just a false rumor. Story developing, we will be updating. Update: Unfortunately, it seems to be confirmed. Rob Pike, co-creator of the Plan 9 and Inferno OSes, who has worked with Ritchie in the past, and he's currently working for Google's GO language, posted this.

RIP, probably the most influential man in technology.
 
One the greats of computing, it's staggering to think of how much of what we use now is built on what he created. RIP
 
We've both loved and hated you in our work but where would we be without you. A computing great!

Looks like god is setting up to form a company to challenge Oracles world domination plans.

To think of the impact Ritchie had on technology is staggering, the vast majority of computing products over the last 30+ years will have at least some C code and a large number will run on something based off Unix...
