Denon announce x700 series with HDMI 2.1 and 8k ready

Hmm will this be a big imitation do you think? I guess most people will have a console and/or a PC to connect. I consider blu-ray a dying format that will be replaced by dtreaming and downloaded content anyway.

What major benefits does it have over the x3700H? Spec increase seems pretty marginal compared to the greatly increased cost.

more hdmi ports and higher wattage per channel is about it. I agree it's not worth the 50% extra cost

You're right it's just ARC, but it still should pass audio streams to my 3500H right?
Yes , but not lossless , however if I remember correctly you had to change a setting in the E6 sound to get it to work , I don't have an LG anymore , but I,m sure you had to change a setting to AUTO

I,m not disputing what your saying but I always thought it was only added to the .400 series onwards , as shown here

Actually I think you are right, as I tried getting it working on my C9 and it just doesn't.

I was going to order an X3600, but they are out of stock until July, so now I am definitely going to get one of the 2020 Denon's now that the kerfuffle over at AudioScienceReview has proven that the X4700 is decent:

Trouble is, I do sometimes use that front HDMI and they've taken it off the X3700 now :(

I have the 3600 and I love it , however if you contact Peter Tyson and enquire about the 3600 (they don't have stock) they will do the 4500 for £799 as an upgrade deal

This AVR release actually hit home to me just how far away we are from HDMI 2.1

I am NOT going to pay the early adopter fee for:
1. OLED TV
2. GPU
3. AVR

Just so I can hit 4k/120fps. I was all ready to go HDMI 2.1 and be really enthusiastic about it but the early adopters tax combined with the compromises is just very hard to justify, even for a dumbass like me who throws away money.

I'll update my AVR when I need more channels and thats it. These seem grossly overpriced but maybe I'm missing a trick or my maths is off.

good thing lg OLED have 4 hdmi 2.1 ports so you just plug everything into tv and use any cheap eARC receiver

no dts on board, dts doesn't pass over EARC for CX. so likely going to need AVR.

I agree for C9. But C9 77'' sadly isn't available with john lewis protection. also feels a bit weird buying a 77'' C9 when the 77'' CX is same price with better PQ, motions and 1 more year of software support.

I think they've shot themselves in the foot with this whole dts thing. I can imagine people using netflix and wondering why there's no sound:p.

I don't think any major streaming service uses DTS, the only people this effects are are those that like to connect direct to TV with a bluray player or some other device that stores personal files with DTS.
I think you will start to see this even more going into the future, Sonos don't support DTS either.

Do the high Panasonic BD players still have 2 hdmi outputs , too, to ensure no interference between audio/video, so you can route separately to AVR, or, you could use a splitter.

My UB900 certainly does. In fact the audio output is the only output feeding my AVR from the BD player, the other output feeds the TV. The UB900 also has a full selection of phono outputs if you want sound to be fully analogue.

I'm not interested in 8k

I am interested in 4k/120hz though which is the native panel that LG use and requires HDMI 2.1

Obviously we'll need beefy next gen GPUs/consoles to utilise it hence we are also waiting for devices to come out with HDMI 2.1 but they will be along shortly.

Apparently it does 8K60 or 4K120hz.

What I found interesting is that it supports VRR too .

I'm currently watching something on prime that's dts and I've watched plenty on Netflix that is. I'm watching on a Samsung, and i can only choose either Dolby digital or dts depending on what its encoded with. For reference I'm watching dark matter.

Edit now I'm not sure, lol if I set my TV to output DD I don't get that on my amp (using toslink).
