Hi Guys

I have a little bit of money to spend on some headphones

what im after is a closed cup over the ear headphone (so i dont wake my girlfriend or son late at night) i will be using them for movies and music on my pc & HTC one (M8) but mainly for playing games on my xbox one via plugging in the 3.5mm jack into my tv headphone socket.

i also really dont want the dj style headphone were it folds up or fold flat.
my top end budget is around £50

i dont have any retail stores in my town to try anything on before i buy, my local comet has gone and all im left with is a pc world but all the headphones on display dont work or are damaged due to the amount of kids trying them on.

ive been looking at the Denon Urban Raver AH-D320 and the Superlux HD681EVO both are in my price range and on line reviews say their good for the money.

but what would you suggest i have a look at ?? most of you here will have a lot more experience and tried on many pairs.

thanks guys

Creative Aurvana Live! are also worth considering at around £53. Superlux 681 and 688 are very good, and so are Panasonic HTF600. Not too keen on the look of the Denon D320, but if the sound was good for the price, the look wouldn't stop me buying them. There aren't that many reviews though, and I'm not too sure of their 'cheap' range of headphones. Personally I'd go for the CAL! over them, as they are essentially the same as the Denon D1001, which were very good headphones indeed.

samson sr850 are also supposed to be really good for the money at the <£50 its always a case of either:

cal, sr850, HD668B, htf 600.

i would look at all their cord lengths and then see which would suit your setup.

no point buying one then finding it only has a 3 foot cord, my htf600's leak sound but it's nothing like my HD 595's, it's a slight amount, not enough to wake anyone up.

Hi All

thanks for your input so far, i have looked at the samson sr850 and the Superlux HD668B they look very similar. both are in the £30ish price area so thats good BUT their both semi open backed !! and i dont want any sound leakage because of other people in bed.

is the Denon Urban Raver AH-D320 or the Superlux HD681 EVO no good or have you guys just not tried them ? i picked the denon because it was also on offer and the superlux hd681 evo because the evo model had much better reviews and the evo model is/was much more expensive

but your views and input is gratefully appreciated :)

open headphones have far better sound quality as they allow air to pass through them.

it's hard to get a really good closed headphone for cheap.

are they CAL's closed? if so get them otherwise your looking at something like HD25-1 II's or something for a lot more money.

thanks for that, i just did a quick search and apart from them been way way over my budget £100+ they are also on-ear headphones :(

i will keep looking and hopefully somebody else may have some views or tell me what the two original headphones i picked sound like/value for money

thank you anyway

of the 2 I have heard of these: Superlux HD681EVO - that exact same model is recommended on head fi.

i haven't seen anyone recommend that specific model of denon but denon do make good headphones.

For £30 I would go with the HD681 EVO you cannot really go wrong for £30, there are a lot of options but they suit you and your environment.

Fischer Audio FA-004 v2 also known as brainwavz hm3, Maxell Retro Headphone, and a few other oem versions can be had for cheap as chips they are all the same thing with different branding the maxell version is especially cheap it's amazing that you can get the maxell version for £15 or less they are identical to the brainwavz hm3 and fischer audio.

Next time I am in town i'm looking for these Maxell Retro Headphone in certain cheap shops which have been known to sell them for £11

well thank you for the reply's but i was hoping for more input from more forum members.

i will keep looking on line and your advise in mind

thanks for your time :)

You have no need for more input, the best recommendations have been given.
Check out Head-Fi if you want confirmation. Loads of reviews on all headphones mentioned on there. :)

the reason i said "more input" was because of the 100's of people on this forum i was expecting more people opinion and their views. but thank you anyway

the majority of people on here don't give a monkeys about headphones though.

proof of this is in the official ps4 headset discussion thread i made, out of everyone in it only 1-2 other posters actually gave a monkeys about sound quality.

The Urban Raver series is a disgrace to the Demon Line. In that price range I like the Skull Candy Aviator. It has a beautiful tone, nice lush mids, friendly treble and fairly decent bass. I prefer them over the more expensive M50.

HTF600s for £35 or the CAL! (which is better) for £53 imo.

If you have your heart set on the Fischer Audio ones, look out for OEM versions - identical headphones, cheaper prices - the sound can vary slightly though depending on what pads are used and slight differences in style. That being said, I would happily take either of the above headphones over it.

yea there are some semi decent headphones around for cheap but overall you are probably going to get the best experience for movies games bit of music from something like the CAL or a closed superlux model in this price range.

The panasonics have terrible build quality imo and although are a fun crisp V shaped sound I can a/b them against my other headphones and can notice straight away missing details in music heard on the others but not there on tha panasonics.

If you are prepared to wait a month for delivery the takstar range are worth looking at also.
