My Friends house attacked my car and left a nasty dent and several scratches, the dent is not massive about 50mm round and the scratches are about 100mm long but have gone through the paint, there in the quarter pannel half-way up right next to the driver door. i'll try and get some pictures.

i got two quotes
one was to remove the dent then mask off the driver door and respray the scratches

the second was to remove the dent and respray the scratches as well has some of the driver door.

the second quote was a lot more money but i was told it would be a better finish.

just want to know your thoughts and opinions, what are the pros and cons of the two methods? is it worth paying extra to have the door sprayed as well? etc etc any thing you can think of.

cheers guys

Have you heard of a company called Chips Away? Very good at dent removal and apparently they have a guarantee that it'll be a 98% colour match to the cars original colour. Can get a quote from there website or call the nearest employee for a quote.

Re-spraying the whole door would be your best bet otherwise the colour match might not be that good.

the quotes i got were from chips away, theres one at the end of my drive.

so far it would seem the that getting the door sprayed as well is the better option. is the only problem with the first method the chance of the colour not matching, or is there aother problems as well?

Well Chips Away are very good a few people i know have used them and the colour match is spot on. I'd say go with them

The guys I used once were ********* useless I actually asked them to leave after there dent removal turned out to be a glue gun and a stick! I had dents taken out before when I was living in London and the guy drilled into the wheel arch from behind, put a rod in and massaged it out. If they come equipped with a glue gun tell them to leave it!

But if the dents on the door it'll more than likely be easy to get out if it isnt double skinned in that area. Most body shops will just fill it in rather than beating the panel to get the dent out.

Chips Away are a franchise, some may be good and some may not be, it will vary from area to area.

Generally for spray work and stonechips i found them to be overpriced, better off just getting a bodyshop to do the work.

When i was talking to the chap he said that he would have to fill certain parts of the dent to get the shape right, as sometimes you cant get the shape of the pannel back exactly as it was, which seems a valid point to me, how true this is i have no idea, what do you guys think?
he was also saying that because the scratches are so close to the front door it would be better to spray the door as well, he said some times you can get away with not spraying the door if the scratches are farther back, as you can blend the colour into the pannel. again i have no idea if this is true or not but seems a valid point.

would it be helpful if i could get some pictures?

thanks for your help so far.

I think thats because when you dint the metal, it stretches it, so if you simply pulled it out you would have a bump rather than a dint
