Dental Prices?

Then comes the "I'll just do a quick clean and polish"

I'm of the opinion that this is often a bit of a scam to bump up the bill a bit. However I get good service from my dentist (the three teeth he's done serious rescue work on have held out very well) so I don't really object to it... though I hate the physical process of having it done. It's almost enough to make me give up drinking coffee.

I see no reason to go private, there are a few areas where NHS dentists are in short supply, no idea about your area but no issues at all finding a NHS dentist around here

Same here, loads of 'em. When I lived in Wales it was much harder to find one though.

Erk, find an NHS dentist and save yourself £550.

I just had to have some dental stuff done after a fair while without having had a checkup :(

3 white fillings - £160

1 checkup - £15.90

You can pay for a year's worth of Denplan subscription for less than that !

is dental work free on the nhs if your claiming benefits? Aka job seekers allowance?

What are the prices like for 2 teeth being extracted and a general polish? Private prices cant for the life get an NSH dentist for a good 2mths in this part of Leeds, there about 6 Private though.

Our family has a denplan subscription, but before it was set up I had a checkup & scale and polish that cost £65.

Being a dentist pretty much gives you a license to print money.

Fillings cost me ~£40 last time I had them, that was just for one however the time before it was the same price for three.
Last check-up was more happy though, had an x-ray to be told of impacted wisdom teeth, but I don't have to have any work done until they become a problem. I hope that doesn't cost £194 :(

The fillings are silver yet you can't really see them so it's not a problem, yet one I have on the outside of my kanine is white.

I'm going to stand up for the dentists in my post - why? My wife is a NHS dentist and I see how hard she works and I'm very proud of her. It's not a license to print money like some would think. It can be well paid, just as any profession can be, but you have to work hard at it to reap the rewards.

Dentistry is incredibly stressful and demanding believe it or not. Imagine how many people are seen on a daily basis. Every individual has to be catered for, and each and everyone is different. Your life is in their hands, and that is no exaggeration!

Dentistry is very highly regulated, particularly on the NHS where you have to be accountable for everything you do.

:)

I can't believe you have to pay on the nhs! So much for NI. I just pay a monthly fee and don't have to pay anything for checkups or to have work done.
