Dented sill - MOT fail?

Hi all,

One of my cars (e36) has a dented sill where the sill is pushed in about 1 inch along about 2 foot of it. Is this even structural on the e36? Would it be considered an MOT fail?

If it's not rotten or at the jacking point I don't see how it could be a fail. Potential advisory if anything. I suppose there's only one way to find out.

Cool, only a bit of surface corrosion where the paint has scratched as it's reasonably recent. Jacking points are fine.

I will give it a go - bit of a pain if it fails as it's being used daily atm.

I think it should be ok as long as it's a dent and not a hole.

It'll be fine. One of the inner sills/chassis rails is partly collapsed inward on the MX5, obviously where someone with male genitalia attached to their forehead once attempted to jack it up. Not had anyone bat an eyelid at an MOT.

It's been used a lot for commuting recently, and has racked up a grand total of £0 in repairs/maintenance in the last year

... excluding this parking dink, so I feel a bit of attention is deserved.

I think we had the rear arches done once, have you had to do them before now ?

what mileage is it up to now ?

Yup - only cost me £150 to do them last time though (April 2009). Not sure of the mileage, I think it's in the region of 165,000!

I would be very supprised if it fails for that, if your worried what i'd do is before booking the MOT at a particular garage, take the car there and ask their opinion of it, if he says nah it will not be an issue then book it there, if he says yes thats awfull im supprised the car hasn't fallen apart then go elsewhere!

Sills are structural, but a dent is not a reason for MOT failure.
