Dentists

I found an NHS dentist appoitment using this search yesterday: https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/find-a-dentist
Put my post code in and looked through. The first one I tried said they had some available, but it was wrong, second one they had some available.
Signed up for it using the dentist's website.

That's really good and it shows my NHS Dentist which is less than half a mile away.

If you do sign up for a NHS dentist, are you obliged to have a yearly check-up to maintain your membership ?
even though that cost would be offset by cheaper work.
(that was supposedly the reason I lost my membership when I didn't make appointments during covid)

I need to ask whether my current dentist, who I have confidence in, does do any nhs work ... or all the good ones just working privately.

My NHS dentist dumped me during COVID too. They were shut so they're unreasonable. They just wanted any excuse to ditch NHS patients.

Ended up with a private dentist, who to be fair are the best dentists I've ever had.

But it does mean I'm paying twice for dentistry. Once through tax and once at the point of use.

Yes you will have to have regular appointments, I go every six months.
I also lost Dentists in the 80s and 90s because I didn't go and it took me many years to find a new one.
I only got it because I'd been in agony for a week, rang every dentist in Stoke multiple times so asked a Councilor friend if he could do anything about it.
He asked where would I like to go and half an hour later I was a patient.
Oh just remembered I lost that one also because of the same thing.
The one I currently have took me about 7 years of constant ringing asking if there are any places and one day the Receptionist said 'Yes'.
I've never missed an appointment since.

My dentist went private only a couple years ago :(
My teeth aren't too bad imho. I brush twice daily and floss and I always had 12 month checkups previously. But since going private, they want me to go every 6 months.

I had a root canal done on one of my front teeth which id never had a problem with. Since he did it about 10yrs ago, its always given me grief and is so sensitive. its also started with internal staining which has really Pee'd me off as there is very little i can do about it.

im sure some of these Dentists do work for the fun of it.
You can have internal whitening done.
I had a root canal done on a discoloured front tooth (I was headbutted years ago) earlier this year and internal whitening done at the same time to match the rest of my teeth.
I was told it can be done again in the future if required.

My {mydentist} gave them 230 for a composite 2surface molar filling last week, is full of advertising for whitening/straightening
would be interested to know how much income they make ;
that can and does look really inauthentic on many - trump etc. must be the epitome when you see the extreme bonded veneers,
conversely saw an interview with Rayner at labour conf and the poor teeth are evident.

Did wonder if my composite filling is so robust they will contribute to accelerated wear on opposing teeth, but was just happy
to be abled to eat on both sides again, rather than discuss with dentist.

Yes you need to attend the appointments they set for you and thats usually six months and don't miss an appointment without cancelling in advance as thats grounds for dismissing you as a patient if you fail to attend.
