Looking at getting my frist SSD *would prefer 120GB* but ive heard so many horror storys or things going wrong, which SSD manufacturer is the most dependable ?
Any info is appreciated :)

I've got a vertex 2e that has been running strong for at least 6 months, although you can get faster drives now. I think the agility is the one to avoid.

Tomshardware has some figures on this:

Looks like Intel SSDs (except the 320) are the most reliable in the industry. :)

Edit: It's worth caveating that the X-25E Intel SSDs were included in the numbers. These drives have SLC memory which is thousands of times more reliable than MLC memory, and as such are less likely to fail.

I see a lot of people saying good things about the M4 but it isn't using a SF controller, marvel I think (?) the SF2281 is the one with problems, a vertex 2E may actually be fine. these issues will probably be seen to but timescale isn't really known. Intel have the best yes but you pay a greater premium for their products, as usual.

When I came to order, I couldn't find an ElmCrest in stock so went with the M4. It's a lot cheaper and has made a noticeable difference compared to my old VR150 so I am happy with my purchase.

When SandForce drives become reliable, I'll put the M4 in my 15z and get one for my desktop. :)
