depressive vs non depressive games

I suffered from depressing for years but never been depressed when gaming like all sorts of games except platform.
Some games are dark an moody like stalker but would never make me feel depressed real life can be depressing around winter time is the worst for me so do a lot of gaming at this time helps me feel better.

Same, I don't get out much which doesn't help but gaming should be like getting out in a way. It shouldn't be making you depressed, it should be doing the opposite :D

Amnesia terrifies me, but makes me feel depressed cause of the atmosphere and amazing story. Really do love that game even if it scares me like nothing ever has.

I could never feel depressed. Upset yes, annoyed certainly...but Depression to me is the very serious end of negative emotions. Not something a video game should be causing.

But yes there are some games where you play alone and they can be 'lonely' games, maybe even a little melancholy in places. I prefer those games as i like to lose myself in them.
When im not gaming, i prefer happier things!

Yeah, the lonelier games tend to feel lonely because you're really immersed in them, which means they've done their job really IMO. Fallout 3 was just insane in terms of how it could play with your mind, incite different emotions and whatnot. How scary were those abandoned factories littered about filled with mutants?

Cannot wait for Fallout 4, I never preorder anything and very rarely pay full price for a game, but that's a definite for me so long as there's 30 quid in my bank. My fridge can stay empty as far as I'm concerned :D

If I want to get properly depressed I'll sign up for a 14 day trial account on Ultima Online.

maybe its where your at in life (no homo)

if you are lonley and depressed and play fallout 3 its a bit like listening to Radiohead when maybe Snoop Doggy DOg woudl be a bit more better for you. If youve been busy at work or study/life and wnat to lose your mind then fallout 3 is ideal, your in a dark spooky world. Nice change of pace.

Anyway I can safely say after 2 hours Just Cause 2 is like an anti-depressenat. Everyone should play that game it should be on the NHS...just blowing stuff up and the scenary..ace

Also maybe Im confusing depressing for boredom. If you feel bored its like dperessed? when I try to play fallout new vegas I get so fed up, walking for miles, ages to kill bad guys, so much rptitive of fallout 3.

Maybe online fps bore me as I play fps like 10 years everyday lol

only thing that depresses me is you!

i am easily avoided you have an easy life

Touche ;)

Srsly, time for less gaming, more activity and maybe a new goal in life. Real life that is. I hit a low spot in my mid/late teens where I was too down to play any games at all. Could not be arsed. Now I barely have time and love gaming again.

When I played fallout 3 I had to leave the game a while after each session as it was so bleak. I thought the game was brilliant but the colour palette and general demur of the game could actually drag me down a bit. Fire up tf2 and all was well again :)

"those abandoned factories littered about filled with mutants?"

Man I hate games like this, plus anything with catacombs, that instantly rules it out for me. I hated the catacombs in Indiana Jones too but I persisted due to the awsomeness of the game, only that though, shame as it rules out all RPG's.

Yeah I'm a scardy cat :)

what indiana jones game.

same in oblivion..lots of caves

As others have pointed out, depressing isn't really the correct term for what you're describing.

I personally enjoy a moodier atmosphere sometimes. For some reason, I love it when it's overcast and raining in GTA games. I loved Heavy Rain's atmosphere, and in Company of Heroes, I prefer it when it's raining.

You need to look at the content of those games. Shenmue and Final Fantasy VIII are not cheerful games, so it would be odd if the atmosphere was happy-go-lucky, just as it would be odd if you put Heavy Rain's soundtrack in a Mario game.

tRUE i ALSO LIKE RIAN IN GAMES, DRIVING in rain at night in GTA with nice music is amazing....driving in rain in just casue 2 in jungle etc...

Playing pes/fifa in rain.

I recall a level in enemy territoy which was in rain.

I love rain in video games.

But yeh some games liek metor and stalker are not meant to be happy dont mean they are not enjoyable. Like a horror movie it has its role.

I guess if you are depressed or in a low mood wtaching a horror movie is not a good ida as is playing fallout 3.
