Haven't got too many tips really. Sand isn't a problem for the lenses as it's not usually windy. Polorizing filter might help make your photos look nicer though. Heat shouldn't be a problem as it's winter now, it shouldn't go above 38 in the day.

Shouldn't have a problem taking photos pretty much anywhere, but remember the UAE doesn't have a Freedom of panorama law so you technically don't have rights to sell or give away pictures of buildings without the owner's permission.

And for the F1 you shouldn't have a problem, I went to the qualifiying a couple of years back and loads of people had SLRs with big lenses, might as well try and if not I think they have lockers you can leave your kit in for the day.

Off Topic: Do you know any excursion operators that you'd recommend? Dad's giving me a call tonight to discuss the trip and book bits and bobs and I've found these guys (http://www.dxbrooms.com/Tours/) who seem good but obviously if you have any personal experience that'd be invaluable.

Amp, you'll be pleased to hear I've picked up a Hoya Pro-1 CPL filter too .
