If an otherwise healthy dog had to have 2 of its legs removed (for reasons which were never established during the drunken pub conversation where this topic was mooted), which 2 legs should it be left with to give it the best quality of life?

In peoples opinion should it keep:

1. Both front legs
2. Both back legs
3. Both legs on one side
4. One front leg and one back leg on opposite sides

(No prosthetic limbs or mechanical aids are available, the dog just has to get by with its 2 legs.)

My choice was for 1. although I could understand the reasons why some people chose 2. what really suprised me was that several people chose 4.

No animals were harmed during the production of this post

Well if it only had its back legs, it would either have to walk backwards, or scrape its face everywhere it walked....

I'd go for two front legs :)

Both front.

+ wheels.

Id say 2 front legs. Even with no wheels you can just put the rear end in a bag to stop carpet burns and they will happily drag themselves round.

As for the walking dog, it was born that way so it knows no difference. I think if a dog was injured it would probably never walk like that in a million years.

if only the dog in the video could talk aswell! Amazing :)

actually, it really reminds me of trogdor for some reason : :D

we had a friend with one of those small yappy terrier dogs that got run over, it lost its use in its front legs, but as it would do tricks like sit up before the accicdent it didnt take much to teach it to walk like it all the time, it fell over quite a lot mind, but it still got arround fine.

Probably 4, I reckon it could learn to keep it's self stable and eventually walk again.

I don't know if 2 would be to much of an extreme for them to be able to learn to walk again.

I'd have to be cruel and say remove the left front and the right back leg on a male dog. Much hilarity will ensue when it's toilet time.
