Design copied?

to be honest i doubt you could prove he copied your design, they look pretty different and i doubt you were the first to invent/think of a rotating disc watch.

I think I would need two watches if I got either of those.

1) Your one to tell the time

2) Another one to tell me how long I have wasted trying to tell the time on yours.
 
Do you have copies of the e-mail conversation between you two ?

could be useful if you decide to take this further, i do think this is a blatent attempt to use your concept.
 
His reply seems genuine -- if he'd acted a little more defensively or with a passive-aggressive slant then it would have implied a little more feeling of guilt on his behalf, which is a massive tell. Plus, he's explained the creation of the product quite well.

I wouldn't bother pursuing it... but I would also be wary of sending unsolicited design works to companies in the future. :)
 
He's trying to fob you off with a discount. I think he knows very well that he ripped off your design (how many people actually send him concepts?) and is doing his best to explain it away as coincidence and at the same time throwing you a bone to pacify you.

I have absolutely no idea about the legal side of all this. I do know it happens a lot though. A guy I used to work with pitched an idea to Channel 4 and they 100% stole it (after telling him they weren't interested) and he didn't have a leg to stand on.

I think you need to find out if it's even worth pursuing it. There must be some forums somewhere that specialize in this sort of thing?

Outer: Hours
Middle: Seconds
Inner: Minutes

Shouldnt it be
Outer: Hours
Middle: Minutes
Inner: Seconds

If it was based on solar system and orbits?
 
Yeah Cyclops was one of their first watches and I did indeed use their image of the strap and metal surround that they use and just changed the face and concept.
