Been browsing some of the pages and i must say im surprised the one on the site won, as there are others that are amazing and the one that won is just basic wording with nothing special about it and a simple dial shape. Something smells fishy to me. Without reading the whole thread, why did it win?

Which it has to be. There's some which look amazing. But are not easy to print on shirts and easy to recognise. You just have to look at all top brands they are all simple, there's a reason for this.

Don't mean to be rude but you should find a new hobby

Most people not fond of the winning logo generally think that 3D textured reflective wordart looks a lot better. Simplicity always wins when it comes to company logos. tshirts, mugs, vinyl etc are reasons why.

Spot on. Good to see that a lot of people aren't blinded by flashy graphics. :)

You can have all the gradients, 3D, reflections, shiny surfaces, and everything else, and you may indeed think they look amazing on a monitor, because I'm sure they do. Now transfer that eye-popping design to a uniform, or a letterhead, or a sign outside the offices. 99% certain it'll fall flat on it's face. Not so amazing now, is it?

Those that did well were able to demonstrate that their design worked both in the virtual world and in the real one. Those that were not able to do this, didn't. It may not make your eyes pop out on a screen, but if it fits the corporate image and works everywhere, then it's a good logo.

PS - I'm not even vaguely talented in the graphics department - I just know what works and what doesn't.

Link me to a logo for a very well know company that isn't basic/simple, and I'll be just as shocked as you are.

Logos should be simple, easily readable, and easily recognisable. Katies fits the bill.

You do realise i only did the images to show the style of the dial i was suggesting was better than the one in the current winners one, nothing more. The text was just to show something that "could" have been done also.

If i was to have done one properly it would look far better than what i posted.

Also im sorry but the winning entry is just plain text which anyone can have done and a simple dial pattern again something anyone can do. I fail to see anything to suggest it to be a winner. To me it just doesn't look professional and there is something to be said for too basic and simple.

I think they should take her up on the slight interface overhaul from black to white, it looked better in that setting.

I agree there the white version is really really good and suits the OcUK image whilest also moving it forward.

As acid said many of the submissions were from an artistic point of view very good, but missed the mark when it came to the OCuk look/feel and suitability for wider shop use.

You should quit before you make yourself look like even more of a total muppet.

Then it's a good job you're not a graphic designer :p

Sorry but i could easily beat the current winners and have it simplistic but much better produced and easily recognizable.

I just didn't enter the competition because i don't have a pci-e mb so the prize would have been useless for me really. Not saying i would win but i could defiantly have made something ocuk would have liked. Not bashing the lass that did the design "per say" but if thats suppose to be from a professional then im sorry but that's not the job for her as from now on when i see the main sites logo im going to think a child made that as it really does look like it.

Anyhow i have made my point that it "could" have been better made or designed. Im going to leave this thread cos well its pointless now anyhow since the comp is over.

How do you not get this. A logo HAS to be simple. You can't have gradients or shadows. As they do not translate well into the real world away from computer monitors or TVs. Just look at all the top company's and look at there logos. you may want to look at supermarkets to start with. plain text with nothing and bold one colour fonts.

No... you couldn't. That gradient thing you posted with the elaborate speedometer and a pretty nasty front is really crap even for a rough draft. Infact the only thing you've clearly demonstrated is you have no understanding in the slightest of what would make a logo OcUK would like.

You didnt read a thing i said, i only made the images to show how the speed dial should be shaper like, it just looks good and simplistic but powerful to the logo. I did not make the dial i just grabed it off the net tweaked it so it fit similar to katies and did the perspective tweak to show as an example to make hers look better.

Sheesh...

To the poster above, the font and gradient (personally i dont like gradients in designs) is nothing really its just to fill the logo "example". It was never meant as a design to put in a comp at all.

Sheesh...

from looking at your sig, if you did it, ie. designed and created it, i therefore could produce better from my rectal cavity, your obviously brilliant.

But the speedo dials look rubbish, they are not linked to computing. Katies although might resemble some dials, is not instantly recognizable as one to the public. IMO

But what matters is the opinion of the MD and team. They obviusley though that logo represented their company views the best.
